Interview
My parterns relationship to the water started
with a story when she visited Montana during the
stormy season. She saw the combination of clouds,
mountains and rain, while thinking it was the most
beautiful thing she has ever seen. I tried to capture
this essence in the story. Her favorite sea animal
was the jellyfish, and she believed that salvation lies
within, so I had to find ways to find connections to
story and her relationship to water and the ocean.
Thumbnails were used to storyboard the book, while
starting to think about visuals
Created mockup examples in notebook to develop the
layout of panels and graphics

Overall, all the panels in the final flow nicely, and I like the choice of using
photo paper. The graphics need a little extra to stand out, and giving
them that nice shinny surface benefited the project as a whole. The prints
did come out a little light, so if I had more time I would have tweaked the
colors even though the lighter tone does work. Through this project, I
learned it can be difficult to find relation in random elements and create a
story, but the hardest part is incorporating these different aspects without
losing relevance. Even though it may be difficult, it is never impossible to
make connections with an open mind and some creativity.

Discovering the relationship
between design and
human experience
11. 8BA Senior Project 4 | Process Notebook
Goal
Visualize highly abstract ideas that source from your
growing awareness of the deeper aspects of yourself,
by exploring design elements, typography and diverse
processes.
Problem Statement
Creative work reaches deep into our intuitive and
unconscious minds, into our hearts and feelings.
The sea change design process helped to define your
calling.
Now you will examine the ways in which this abstract
idea can be interpreted and represented in visual form,
offering clarity, embedded meaning and understanding
to the viewer. Stay away from literal translation and use
metaphors and story telling for your design. Emphasis
will be placed upon original concept development
and the exploration of diverse processes, techniques
and methods. You will be expected to experiment and
explore, thereby expanding on your visualizing skills.
Deliverable
Design a poster calendar for 2017
Visualize your calling and its embedded meaning, in
your own personal voice by exploring diverse processes
and techniques: eg drawing, photography, xerography,
abstraction, typography, collage, textures, sculpture,
different types of materials: paper, fabric, vellum,
cardboard, metal, wood, foil…
size: 22”x28” min. final size
color: 4cp
content:
Main level of information: your calling
. Secondary level of information: 2017 calendar
(keep it to less than 1/4 of the format)

Project Development
Through the sea change process, early on I found
myself revolving around the ideas of wonder and
space. My defining moment was a time on top of a
volcanco when I saw the stars bringhter than ever
before. It inspired a new sence of wonder in my life.
I saw something that I never knew existed, and my
intention was to replicate that feeling for others by
connecting the unknown.

Through this whole process I learned more about who I am as
a designer. I was successful in creating a calling intention that
I will be able to base my design work for the future. My poster
was also successful in representing my calling intention. I chose
to go along with the comsic relation of my intention. The stars
end up making the connections to the light bulb (wonder). The
calendar on the poster is located inside this bulb. The calendar
is a planetary calendar of the first day of the year 2017.

This was an interesting project to develop an organization
under a group environment. I learned many ways of
communication and managing a groups workflow. Overall, as
a group we designed a cohisive brand dedicated to filtering
out the good from the bad consumer choices that infuelce
water consuption. We show this idea from our logo all the way
through our pop up shop artifact of companies that have been
making postive water choices for our environment.
