Analysis:
Title: Side pole impact of LHS front Door of a car (Duration: 150Hrs)
Objective: To analyze the front LHS door of a car for a pole impact according to FMVSS 214.
Brief Procedure: Literature review, extracting mid-surface & geometry cleanup, meshing of with
crash quality criteria, removing of initial penetration & intersections, spot welds & connections are
modeled, assigning appropriate materials, sectional properties and contacts, Boundary conditions are
applied as per standards FMVSS 214 (Pole Impact) for both dynamic & quasistatic analysis. Debug run
and analysis using LS-Dyna. Result interpretation, Force absorption and global energy curves
generation.
Tools Used: Hypermesh, Oasys-Primer, LS-Dyna, HyperView.
3. 3
Title: Side pole impact of Full Vehicle
Objective: To analyze the crashworthiness of vehicle side structure as per standard FMVSS 214
Brief Procedure: Literature review & going through different research papers. Ford Taurus car model
is taken from public domain. Deck preparation. Assigning boundary conditions as mentioned in
standards. Debug run and analysis using Ls-Dyna. Result interpretation, Force absorption and global
energy curves generation.
Tools Used: Hypermesh, Oasys-Primer, LS-Dyna, HyperView.
Title: Roof Crush Analysis of Ford Taurus Car (WIP)
Objective: To analyze the roof crush resistance as per standard FMVSS 216
Brief Procedure: Literature review. Ford Taurus car model is taken from public domain. Deck
preparation. Assigning boundary conditions as mentioned in standards. Debug run and analysis using
Ls-Dyna. Result interpretation, Force absorption and global energy curves generation.
Tools Used: Hypermesh, Oasys-Primer, LS-Dyna, HyperView.
Title: Camouflage Tree structural analysis- Reliance Industries
Objective: Determining the strength of the structure and failure criteria of bolts in 6m height artificial
tree due to extreme wind loading (180Kmph) as per standard IS 1161 and 2062
Brief Procedure: Wind load for the life of 25 years of the structure is calculated. Material of the pipe
and the base plate are decided from IS 1161 and 2062 respectively, Max stresses developed in the
structure are well within the factor of safety of 1.64 and failure criteria of bolts is calculated and
matched with the results obtained using FEA.
Benefits: Reliance uses Camouflage trees to provide free Wi-Fi facilities across India.
Title: FE Analysis of Saddle Actuator- UNO-MINDA (Duration: 50Hrs)
Objective: To find out the cause of failure in the shaft of Saddle actuator and Design improvisation.
Brief Procedure: Root-Cause analysis of why failure is occurring. Executing static, dynamic, impact,
modal and fatigue analysis. Comparing with the failure contour we concluded that the shaft was failing
due to fatigue because of bending load it was experiencing during vibration, Redesigning for that
failure criteria.
Benefits to the company/Society: Increase in the lifespan of the product.
