What is Civil War ?
*A Civil War, also known as an intrastate war
between organized groups within the same state
or country.
The English Civil War:

was a series of armed
conflicts and political
machinations between
parliamentarians and
royalists principally over
the manner of England’s
governance.

First Civil War(1642-1646):
 1640 & 1641: Tried to pass new laws to give greater
control of government to them.
 January,1642: Charles arrests five MPs & the
preparations for war continue.
 22 August, 1642: Civil War-standard rise.
 23 October, 1642: Battle of Edgehill.
 20 September, 1643: First battle of Newbury.
 June 1640: Battle of Marston Moor.
 27 October, 1644: Second battle of Newbury.
 14 June, 1645: Battle of Naseby.
 6th May & 24th June, 1646: Charles surrendered to the
scots & Oxford Charles 1’s capital surrendered to the
parliament.
Second Civil War(1648-1649):
 December, 1648: Charles recaptured.
 6th January, 1649: Rump Parliament began.
 20th January,1649: Trial of King Charles began
 30th January, 1649: Execution.
Third Civil War(1649-1651):
 1651: Charles 2 is crowned
king of Scots& then defeated
by Cromwell Worcester.
 3rd September, 1651: The
Civil War ended when the
parliament won the battle of
Worcester.

1. Trial & Execution of Charles-1:
Ending of Absolute Monarch
 The execution of Charles 1 by
beheading on Tuesday 30 January,
1649 outside the Banqueting House
in Whitehall. The execution was the
culmination of political military
conflicts between the Royalists & the
Parliamentarians in England during
the English Civil war.
2. Strict Limitation on the Power of
King:
 Effect of “Blue Laws”.
 Monarchy as a symbolic
institution that
promoted unity or
order.
3. Reduce Absolute Monarchy:
 Devine Right: The kings and queens said that
absolute monarch come from will of god.
 Monarch is subject to all earthly and spiritual
authority, such as- taxes, religion, political issues
& other main issues of a country.
4. Liberty of the Press:
 Freedom to print.
 Freedom to publish
without official
supervision.
 Freedom to write actual
observation.
5. Continuation of Monarchy:
 England is traditionally Monarchy
observed country but it is directed by
Prime Minister & command of
