Abstract
Cucumber is a versatile fruit vegetable consumed in various ways. It is
an important commercial crop and popular kitchen garden vegetable.
Basically there are three types of cucumber that is slicing types,
pickling or processing types and green house cucumber. Cucumber is
a beneficial vegetables and we can cultivate easily in any place. It is
sensitive plant and it can be affected easily by any type of insects and
any type of diseases. BARI Hybrid Shosha is more beneficial than ACI
Hybrid shosha, we have proved it of our research plot-no 2 in
BSMRSTU campus. We have got huge amount of production from
BARI Hybrid Shosha variety.
Keywords: Growth stage, diseases, treatment, harvesting,
recommendation.
1. Introduction
We have achieved huge amount of knowledge from our research plot
and also have known about cucumber production. At the time of
cultivating which types of pesticides, insecticides, seed’s will use for
production and also we have known that what time will we harvest
cucumber and how to improve its growth stage.

1.1 Objectives of our project
•To know the external appearance of the fruit over same treatment of
nutrients.
•To collect related attribute data over response of season.
2. Description
2.1 Land Selection
For cucumber production in a 1st stage its very
important to select a proper plot. Proper soil
condition (moisture, nutrient) and optimum
soil PH is must be needed. Well drained, light,
loamy sand with pH range of 6.0-7.0 is ideal
for cucumber cultivation.
 Plot length – 4.5m
 Plot width-2m
 Height of seedbed-10 inch
 Hill-2
 Plot Selecting date- 3-7-18

 Ploughing – In this operation
we have dug all soil in plot.
 Weeding- We have cut all
plants which have no economic
value in our plot.
 Cow dung- After weeding we
applied cow dung in our plot.
 Bleaching powder
application- After cow dung
application we applied beaching
powder for removing insect &
diseases.
 Labelling- Then we labelled all soil in our plot.
 Irrigation- After labelling we applied irrigation for developing
soil.
2.3 Seeding & Seedling-
 Seedling of BARI Hybrid Shosha
variety was planted after three days of
land preparation on 15-7-18.
 Seeding of ACI Hybrid Shosha variety
was done after three days of seedling
planting on 18-07-18.
2.4 Plant Growth stage
We determined and observed plant growth height at 1st week then 2nd
week last at 3rd week.

2.4.1Recommendation-
In figure 01 height of BARI Hybrid Shosha is higher than ACI Hybrid
Shosha. And BARI Hybrid Shosha was increasing than ACI Hybrid
Shosha day by day. Growing rate of BARI Hybrid Shosha is also good
than ACI Hybrid Shosha.

When a plant height is almost 30 inch and
that time application of netting will be
needed. For applying netting plant will get
proper height and don’t be damaged by
diseases and water. Tendrils of cucumber
hold up with net. For this fruits could hang
up with net and will not be damaged. As a
result we used netting system in our plot.
2.6 Diseases
Observation after 25 days, ring spots, leaf
curl, mosaic virus, powdery mildew,
downey mildew, gummy stem blight were
seen on the plants and red pumpkin beetle,
mite, fruitfly also seen in our plot and our
plants were affected by these widely.

2.6.1 Recommendation- After application several insecticides and
pesticides diseases effected leafs was decreasing day by day. We saw
that amount of diseases affected leafs at 2nd week were more than 3rd
week. And after applying insecticides and pesticides diseases affected
leafs of BARI Hybrid Shosha was decreasing quickly than ACI Hybrid
Shosha.
2.7 Treatment
 For solving these problems we followed
several ways. For killing these insects we
sprayed Captain 10EC, Capacity 6 WDG
together.
 For developing plant growth we applied DAP,
UREA, COW DUNG and Hormone.
 For removing diseases we applied THIOVIT
W80 in our plot.
2.8 Flowering & Fruiting time
 Flowers came after 40 days of planting on 25-8-18.
 Fruits came after 15 days of flowering on 10-9-18

2.8.1 Recommendation --In figure 03 we can see here mean of flower
of BARI Hybrid Shosha is higher than ACI Hybrid Shosha. Flower
came in BARI Hybrid Shosha quickly and their flower condition was
good than ACI Hybrid Shosha. On the contrary flower came in ACI
Hybrid Shosha lately and amount of flower of ACI Hybrid Shosha is
lower than BARI Hybrid Shosha.
2.9 Harvesting
We have harvested fruits after 20 days of flowering. Fruits are allowed
to maturity on the plant. Only complete colored and matured fruits are
harvested.

2.9.1 Recommendation
In figure 04, we can see here we have got more amount of harvesting
fruits from BARI Hybrid Shosha variety than ACI Hybrid Shosha
variety. Quality of fruit of BARI Hybrid Shosha was better than ACI
Hybrid Shosha.
2.10 Overall observation & result discussion
Based on allover data we can recommend that BARI Hybrid Shosha is
good and also perfect for cultivating in any place like high rainfall area,
high temperature place. It is disease resistant plant and diseases and
insects cant attack easily BARI Hybrid Shosha. It have high flowering
rate, high fruiting rate, high harvesting rate. One the contrary ACI
Hybrid Shosha can’t grow properly in rainy place, high temperature
place. We didn’t get proper amount harvesting fruit, flower etc. ACI
Hybrid Shosha is attacked through any type of insects, diseases, weed
easily & quickly. We have proved these in figure 01, 02, 03, 04. Moral
of the story we can say that BARI Hybrid Shosha variety is better than
ACI Hybrid Shosha variety.

2.11 Conclusion
Cucumber production is very difficult than other production. At time
of cultivating we have to take care daily faithfully unless will not get
accurate production. Before cultivating cucumber we should know
about convention of cucumber production. If we want to get proper
production then we must collect data day by day and analyse it then
take decision.
