William Wordsworth was an influential English Romantic poet from 1770 to 1850. Some of his most famous works include Lyrical Ballads, published in 1798 with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and The Prelude, an autobiographical poem published after his death in 1850. Wordsworth found spiritual meaning and inspiration in nature, believing it had the power to elevate the mind and purify distressed spirits. He was concerned with the relationship between man and nature as well as the dangers of materialism corrupting spirituality and insensitivity to the natural world.
