2. I WAS OBSESSED WITH RIDING
THE BOSTON SWAN BOATS.
No reason. Just weirdness.
3.
4. FACTS:
SUBWAY: Green Line: Arlington Station
TICKETS: $4 for adults; $2.50 for children
DURATION: short wait, then 12 to 15 minutes for the ride
REMEMBER: bring or buy a hat!
OPERATION: Spring through Labor Day
HISTORY: in operation, AND family owned since 1877 . . .
15. I enjoyed the RELAXING ride,
the SOUND of the person pedaling,
the vibrant GREEN surroundings,
the warm (not hot) SUMMER day.
And thought about . . .
17. ANOTHER FACT:
The INSPIRATION TO USE A SWAN
(rather than, say, a dragon, or goat) was a story from medieval Germany:
a knight seeking the Holy Grail crosses a river on a boat
that’s pulled by a swan.
18. No, I wasn’t thinking about the
medieval German story.
I was thinking that
only one person
has ever
given me a rose.
It was our first date.

19. He gave me the rose. Then he told me he was married.

20. “Get away from me, freak!”
That was my first thought.
There was more to his story,
but I walked away
and never saw him again.

22. The lovely ride ended.
I bought some postcards.
I chatted with the saleslady.
I went to the bridge.
25. You now know that
I loved and
highly recommend the
Boston Swan Boat Rides.

happened to the man with
the rose!
