2. All about MOOCs (Massive Open Online
Courses) in India & Abroad
Introduction
• A Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is a web-based platform which
provides unlimited number of students worldwide with a chance of
distance education with the best institutes in the world. It was
established back in 2008 and gained momentum in 2012 as a popular
learning tool. Many MOOCs have communities that have interactive
sessions and forums between the student, professors and Teaching
Assistants (TAs) along with the study/course material and video lectures.
• So, if there is a particular course you want to pursue but cannot, you have
an option of considering a MOOC for your chosen higher education path.
3. How does it work?
• Think of it like an online platform where students and
teachers come together and form an online pool of
resources, which are readily available for you to
utilize. You have the option of listening to
lectures, downloading notes, contributing your own,
and most importantly, sharing your point of view by
communicating with your peers. Networking makes
the process seem like a virtual online classroom.
4. MOOCs in India and Abroad
• There are various notable institutions, both non-profit and commercial, that offer
these courses worldwide with the help of MOOC providers. A few of these are
listed below,
• • NPTEL (India): Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of
Science (IISc.) offer online courses through this platform which require no
registration and are free of cost.
• • WizIQ (India and USA): IIT Delhi, India offers this course through this platform
which requires registration and fees to study courses offered by them.
• • Open2Study: The headquarters of this platform for online courses is based out of
Australia.
• • Coursera: The headquarters of this platform for online courses is based out of
USA.
• • edX: The headquarters of this platform for online courses is based out of USA.
• • udemy: The headquarters of this platform for online courses is based out of USA.
6. Semiconductor Physics
University of Colorado
Boulder
English Coursera https://www.coursera.org/
This course introduces basic concepts of quantum theory of
solids and presents the theory describing the carrier
behaviors in semiconductors. The course balances
fundamental physics with application to semiconductors and
other electronic devices.
7. Kinetics: Studying Spacecraft Motion
University of Colorado
Boulder
English Coursera https://www.coursera.org
As they tumble through space, objects like spacecraft move in dynamical
ways. Understanding and predicting the equations that represent that
motion is critical to the safety and efficacy of spacecraft mission
development. Kinetics: Modeling the Motions of Spacecraft trains your
skills in topics like rigid body angular momentum and kinetic energy
expression shown in a coordinate frame agnostic manner, single and dual
rigid body systems tumbling without the forces of external torque, how
differential gravity across a rigid body is approximated to the first order to
study disturbances in both the attitude and orbital motion, and how these
systems change when general momentum exchange devices are
introduced.
8. Electrodynamics: An Introduction
Korea Advanced
Institute of Science
and Technology (KAIST)
English Coursera https://www.coursera.org
The depth and breadth of electromagnetism, the foundation for many
fields including materials science, electrical engineering, and physical
chemistry, requires a long, steep, and steady learning curve. This course
aims to bridge the gap between the fundamental principles taught in
electromagnetism and its practical application to specific fields such as
materials, physics, and chemistry related to energy storage and harvesting.
9. Nuclear and Particle Physics
IIT Guwahati English SWAYAM/ NPTEL https://swayam.gov.in/
https://onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in/
The first part of the course will discuss nuclear physics. Properties of nuclei and
details of popular nuclear models, properties of nuclear decays and nuclear
reactions will be discussed in brief, but in a self-consistent manner. The second
part will discuss the basics of particle physics. In this part, the fundamental forces
and the dynamics of elementary particles under these forces will be considered.
After introducing relativistic quantum mechanics, relativistic formulation of
Maxwell’s Equations and quantum electrodynamics will be discussed. This will be
developed into the weak and strong nuclear forces based on the principle of
gauge symmetry. The course will also introduce the physical principles of particle
accelerators and detectors, including a very brief picture of the modern day
complex detectors
10. Experimental Physics I
IIT Kharagpur English SWAYAM/ NPTEL https://swayam.gov.in/
https://onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in/
I will teach Experimental Physics in this course. I have designed this course in three
modules:(I) Experimental Physics-I : Experiments on Mechanics, General properties of matter,
Thermal properties of matter, Sound, Electricity and magnetism.(II) Experimental Physics-II :
Experiments on Optics and Modern Physics.(III) Experimental Physics-III : Experiments on Solid
state physics and Modern Optics.:Each module is of 30 hours course and at present we will
discuss only module-I. Module-II and III may be discussed in successive semester. This course
is not only suitable for undergraduate students of physics, rather it is compulsory for all
undergraduate students of science, engineering and technology , who have to deal with
instruments in any point of time during their carrier and profession. This course will make you
understand the working principle of many common devices through their applications in
different experiments with particular aims.
12. Teaching Primary Science: Physics
FutureLearnEnglish
National STEM
Learning Centre
Enhance your physics subject knowledge for teaching primary science
and discover practical activities for your physics lessons. Help your
primary students to excel in primary school physics. To teach primary
science effectively teachers must have sound subject knowledge.
However, many primary teachers are not science subject experts. On this
course, you’ll examine the key subject knowledge areas within the
physics element of the primary science curriculum

13. Diploma in Elementary Education D.El.Ed
National Institute of
Open Schooling (NIOS)
English SWAYAM/ NIOS https://swayam.gov.in/
Teacher Education is one of the important components to determine the quality of a
teacher. Untrained teachers remains deprived of becoming aware realising many good
qualities of a teacher. Teaching is a profession which requires development of typical the
feelings and skills of harnessing the good qualities in a learner. To ensure that all untrained
teachers acquire the requisite qualifications, SSA provides for 60 days of training for
teachers who have not received any training before their recruitment. But this training
cannot be deemed to be equivalent to requisite training qualification as prescribed by the
NCTE. However, after the notification of the " Right of Children to Free and Compulsory
Education Act 2009 effective from 1st April 2010, it is imperative that all teachers teaching
at the elementary level, if not trained, shall have to acquire training qualification within a
period of five years.
14. Educational Technology
Manipur University English SWAYAM/CEC
http://cec.nic.in/cec/
https://swayam.gov.in/
This course is about learning the concept of educational technology. What comes to our mind
when you hear the term educational technology? Maybe computer, digital tools, internet,
mobile phones, smart boards, electric gadgets, etc.?? Is educational technology only about
these tools and gadgets? Definitely not. It is not restricted to these tools only but encompasses
everything that enhances teaching and learning. It helps in improving teaching learning process
and reaching the pre-set goals of education through systematic organization of learning
procedures and processes. For new generation learners, it is required to have a sound
knowledge of educational technology and its effect on teaching-learning process. In this course,
we will be studying about Introduction of Educational Technology, Classroom Communication
and Teaching Aids, Instructional Techniques and Phases, levels and Models of Teaching and
Understand the concept, approaches and significance of educational technology and explain the
role of communication in the field of education.
