4. 1. The activity & products knowledge of AFLEX from website
• AFLEX are the vast suppliers of Marine Equipments in
Asia and Middle East market, We supply the high
quality of marine equipments, parts and test
certification services, the major services are listed
below:
• Marine Pumps
• Pollution Control Equipments
• Mechanical Seals
• Spare Parts
• Pump Testing Certifications
5. Marine Pumps
1) There are three(3) main types of marine
pumps used by various vessels in the market.
1.1) Vertical Centrifugal Pumps
1.2) Horizontal Centrifugal Pumps
1.3) Positive Displacement Pumps
6. 1.1) Vertical Centrifugal Pumps (VCP)
1.2) Horizontal Centrifugal Pumps (HCP)
• Both pumps have almost
common specifications except
design and structure
• i.e. single/multistage,
single/double suction, non self-
priming/priming, open and
close impellers.
7. 1.3) Positive Displacement Pumps (PDP)
• Its major mechanical functions are based on
Piston & gears and are different than Centrifugal
pumps in function but doing the same job. It
uses piston or other device to push or positively
displace the control amount of liquid.
• The positive displacement pumps are normally
used where the discharge rate is small to
medium.
• They are popularly used where the viscosity of
the fluid is high.
• They are generally used to produce high pressure
in the pumping system.
8. Pollution Control Equipment
Pollution control equipment are designed to
clean the environment in all aspects which
covers i.e. public, Commercial & industrial
areas.
The major categories stocked with AFLEX are:
» Oily Water Separator
» Sewage Treatment Plant
• Above products are designed to meet the
latest requirement by IMO and MARPOL
regulation.
9. Mechanical Seals
Mechanical seals are designed to join two
systems or mechanism to prevent the leakage.
The most common seals we see in our general
life i.e. in plumbing, motor engines etc.
AFLEX offers various types of seal suitable for
Japanese/ European made pumps. AFLEX also
provide gland packing to mechanical seal
conversion.
We are able to retrofit the existing seal to
double seal for cargo pumps as well.
10. Spare Parts
AFLEX supplies various pump spares i.e.
purifier spares, heat exchanger spares and
compressor spares in the market.
The main categories are below:
• Pump Parts
• Compressor Spares
• Purifier Spares
• Heat Exchanger Plates and Gaskets
• Valves
• Electrical Motors
• Customized Jobs (Machining or Reconditioning of
Shaft Impeller Castings)
11. Pump Testing Certifications
AFLEX provides complete pump testing and
certification services to ensure the proper
matching of equipment and assurance of
pump performance.
These measurements include:
» Measurement of flow rate
» Pressure measurement
» Power measurement
» Pump and motor alignment
12. 2. The overview and knowledge of
current maritime news (What is
happening currently in the region
and shipping market)
14. Definition of Pump (in Vessel use)
• Pumps plays significant role in the
operations of vessel. A vessel consists of
various types of fluids moving inside
different machinery and systems for the
purpose of cooling, heating, lubrication, and
as fuels. These liquids are circulated by
different types of pumps, which can be
independently driven by ship power supply
or attached to the machinery itself. All the
systems on board ship require proper
operational and compatible pump and
pumping system so that ship can run on its
voyage smoothly.
15. The most common usage of Pump
• The most efficient and
required pumps are used to
run following machineries:
• Freshwater Generator
• Boiler
• Firefighting
• Engine Room
• Waste Water
17. Centrifugal Pump
4. Explain about centrifugal pump working principle
• Centrifugal Pump (Centrifugal
pumps work principals)
• A pump having vanes that rotate
in a casing and whirl the fluid
around so that it acquires
sufficient momentum to
discharge from the extremities
into a volute casing which
surrounds the impeller and in
which the fluid is conducted to
the discharge pipe.
18. Centrifugal pump contains 7 main
internal components:
1) Shaft
2) Impeller
3) Wear rings
4) Volute
5) Packing or mechanical seal
6) Bearings
7) Coupling
19. The Shaft
The internal parts of the
centrifugal pump are
mounted on the shaft, the
shaft is usually made of
stainless steel or some
other patent resistant
material, its very
expensive to replace or
repair the damaged shaft,
some shaft contains shaft-
sleeve or metal cylinder
that fits over the shaft and
protect it from the
damage, it easier and
cheap to replace the
damage sleeve than the
shaft itself.
20. The Impeller
The circular device called
impeller, the impeller fits snuggly
on the shaft and is usually
pressed on, it can be held on
place by several methods but
most common is the key and key
way, the impeller is the most
critical part of centrifugal pump,
because the its size and shape
and the speed its turn
determines he pump capacity,
there are three(3) type of
impeller, open, semi open and
closed.
21. Wear Rings
Wear Rings are installed to
control the fluid leakage, but
not to stop all together,
since some leakage is
important for lubrications
and for contracting the
radial and thrust forces that
build up inside the pump.
When wear Rings are
attached to casing it’s called
“Casing Wearing” so these
are called impeller Wear
Rings.
22. The Volute
Volute is the chamber with
the discharge nozzle where
the fluids leaves the impeller,
the increased area inside the
nozzle lets the fluid slow
down and convert the
impellers kinetic energy into
pressure, volute casings are
either single or double as per
the required function of the
model.
23. Packing seal
The packing seal
functions simply to
minimize the leakage
from the pump shaft.
Packing seals are soft
and pliable and usually
made of cotton or other
soft material.
24. Bearings
Bearings basically
supports the shaft and
reduce frictions as its
rotates in the casing,
they also helps to
control forward,
backward and thrust of
the shaft and they
control side to side and
radial movements.
25. Coupling
Coupling are the
connection joint b/w
driver (motor, engine
or steam turbine) and
pump shaft, this grips
the driver and shaft
solidly together and
transmits power from
driver shaft to the
pump shaft.
26. Centrifugal Pump are general
characterized as below:
•Higher Volume
•Lower Pressure
•Must be Primed
27. Positive Displacement Pump
Pumps with Piston & gears are
called positive displacement
pumps. It uses piston or other
device to push or positively
displace the control amount
of liquid.
The Major Components:
Gear
Scroll
Piston
28. Definition of Positive Displacement
Pump
• This class of pump differs
from the centrifugal class by
several important factors
Generally self-priming
whereas centrifugal generally
require a priming means such
as a belt driven priming
pump.
• They are popularly used
where the viscosity of the
fluid is high.
• They are generally used to
produce high pressure in the
pumping system
