Introduction
• Took pre-mature retirement from the Indian Navy as Commodore on 31 May 2012
after putting in 32 years of service.
• Post premature retirement; have been taking up jobs as Dredge Master on short
contracts with Dredging Corporation of India.
• Commanded three submarines.
• Was involved in the assessment and identification of defence ship building yards for
submarine construction.
• Interacted extensively with government departments and various regulatory
authorities whilst at Naval Headquarters as Director, Submarine Operations and
subsequently as Principle Director, Submarine Acquisition.
• Was Commanding Officer of the only premier integrated submarine training
institution, INS Satavahana in the Indian Navy which saw unprecedented growth in
terms of the quality of training during my tenure of two years.

Major Highlights:
• Fortuitously commanded three submarines including two operational commands wherein major deployments and exercises
with foreign navies were undertaken.
• Functioned as Director in the Directorate of Submarine Operations at the Naval Headquarters and handled assignments
related to submarine operations, induction of personnel, training curriculum and implementation of HR policies.
• As Principle Director Submarine Acquisition at the Naval Headquarters
- Developed expertise in Defence Procurement Procedure and Contract Management
- Initiated major projects including the Second Phase of Submarine Construction and Submarine Rescue System.
- Operationalised critical onboard systems, procured from foreign vendors.
- Headed Field Evaluation and Factory Acceptance Trial teams to the premises of foreign vendors.
• Commanded the only premier integrated submarine training institution, INS Satavahana in the Indian Navy for two years
wherein
- Trained personnel in batches varying between 15 and 300 in number at any given time.
- Achieved unprecedented growth in terms of the quality of training.
- Foreign officers were trained in India for the first time while I was in command.
- Introduced modern techniques and established a campus LAN to revitalise training.
- Set up a Modern Submarine Motion Control Simulator and state of the art Submarine Fire Control System.

• Other significant contributions during my training assignments were:
- Teaching Submarine Warfare Tactics and Finer Nuances in exploitation of Fire Control System.
- Reviewing the preset educational goals, objectives and classroom instructional programs.
- Establishing academic and other performance objectives.
- Monitoring the functions of the faculty members and ensuring high quality education.
• As Deputy Director General at National Cadet Corps (NCC) Headquarters, was actively involved with the management of
the NCC Republic Day Camp. Further, was responsible for formulating policies, plans and co-ordination of all administrative
functions. Whilst performing these duties significantly contributed towards:
- Enhancing NCC cadet strength from 13 lakhs to 15 lakhs by obtaining requisite Central Government sanction.
- Commissioning 26 additional NCC units thus increasing the coverage to 633 districts across the country at an
estimated cost of Rs. 90 crores.
• Developed ample expertise in dredging (in Indian ports like Kochi, Haldia and Kandla), ship handling and general
administration whilst on contract with Dredging Corporation of India.
