1. Proposal
Film synopsis
My film is about gambling. I’mgoing to explore the world of poker. I’m going
to use camera techniques and editing techniques more for this film than I did
with my last. I’mgoing to usetechniques like the pull focus on the cards and
tracking shots, plus many more. I’m using my personalpoker night as an
opportunity to film my film. All my friends haveagreed to participate in it and I
believe it will be a great film overall. WhatI’m going to do is havea story about
losing money and the seriousness of gambling. I will lend the equipment of the
college. Go home and meet the others in my friend’s housewherethe film
takes place and startsetting up and filming right away. I want to make this
film an editing masterpiece. I will achieve this by using all the shooting
technique I have been taught as well as the editing techniques I have been
taught.
The logline
My scriptis about poker and the seriousness of gambling. Itstarts off with a
conversation aboutwho is going to win tonight’s poker night, they go off and
play the game of poker and they are unhappy with the way Xander is playing
and they believe he wouldn’tplay like that if there was actual money involved.
So, they decide to organizea serious poker gamewith actual money involved.
So, to teach Xander a lesson all the lads organized to cheat and make him see
how dangerous gambling actually Is. They do show him but it was a close call
with a last minute all in fromAdam and he wins, they admit to what they have
done and don’ttake his money and they see in reality they both got taught a
lesson.
Screenplay structure
Act 1
This act starts off with Xander and Robert walking down a street discussing the
night and going to a bus stop to prepare for a night of justa fun non-gambling
poker night. Next scene is everyoneis waiting outsideXanders’. They are
talking about the night waiting for him to open the door. He does lets them in
and they play their game, it’s all going well until Xander decides to go All in on
a high bet which makes everyoneFold. His friends are not happy he did this, so

2. they complain and say he wouldn’tdo it if there was actual money involved.
Xander called their bet and decided that next week Poker night will involve
actual money and everyoneagrees.
Act 2
Robert, Thomas, Adamand Chris are walking to Xanders ready for the serious
poker night. They startdiscussing a plan to cheat in the game to teach Xander
a lesson, they come up with the plans and go to Xanders. Xander is ready for
them so they sit down and startplaying poker. They fail at cheating firstbut
eventually they manage to get to the point where it is justAdam and Xander
on the river (lastround of poker) where Adams makes a gutsy last turn and
goes all in and Xander does it too and it is all decided on the reveal and Adam
wins. They explain the plan and how they cheated to teach them a lesson. It
then ends with giving Xander his money back and they see how they were both
wrong.
Characters
Xander
Xander in my story is the arrogantand confident poker player. He’s really
friendly, justwhen you’recompeting don’tlet your guard down against his
friendly face. In my film he is the one who wants to seriously gamble as he is a
competitive man.
Robert
Xanders’ bestfriend but also very competitive. He’s not as a nice of guy as
Xander as him as well is very competitive but in my story, he is Xanders
competitor. He has flair and confidence but if you can get your head round
him. You will be able to tell his every move.
Thomas
Very quiet but very smart. Always folds if he’s not surebut plays well with a
good hand. He backs up the others when Xander is playing like an idiot. He
enjoys playing poker but enjoys the sociology side of it. He likes to bluff and
show his poker face.
Adam
Adam is another one who is quite but lacks in confidence. He beats Xander
with a gutsy move on his last turn. Which is the unlikely hero story. Adam in

3. the film is the one who comes up with the plan to cheat to teach Xander a
lesson and he follows through on his last turn going all in.
Chris
Chris is very loud in general but quite as he plays the game, he’s very silent as
he needs to concentrate to play, he is very smartjustslow when it comes to
poker. He always goes for it but in the end, he justis not that lucky either but
when he gets the right hand knows how to play it off.
Film treatment
The film starts off with Robert and Xander walking to the bus stop talking
about who is going to win tonight’s poker night. Xander is very confident but
shy around anyoneother than his friends. He believes that Chris has a good
chance of winning this game. Robert a very confident and arrogantman feels
that he’s going to win. They leave each other going back home to get ready for
the night.
Next scene of my film they are all standing outside of Xander’s waiting for him
to let them in. They startdiscussing whatthey did on the day while they wait,
eventually they get let in and startsetting up. They start discussing whatfood
they want for the night while they are setting up and Chris has been told that
he is not allowed kebab meat becauseit upsets his stomach and others. There
are 2 briefcases under the table. Robert takes a guess and thinks one of them
is the poker set. Turns out it was Xander's privatebelongings. Robert puts it
back and picks up the poker set. They then continue to play poker, and
everyoneis enjoying the game. A montage effect is used to get to the river
quicker. Xander then decides to go all in and everyoneis not happy with his
decision. They all kick off and say he would not do that if it was for real money.
Despite that Chris goes all in while the others fold. Xander comes out
victorious and takes all the winnings. Xander mentions he wants to go play
competitive as he feels he will be good at it. Everyonedisagrees and says he
will be awfulat it and he will lose lots of money. Xander disagrees and says he
wants to take part in one, so all the lads agree to do a proper game with real
money the next week. They all continue playing poker then cuts to people
leaving and Xander cleaning.
Next scene all the lads are walking towards Xander’s discussing theplan to
cheat and teach Xander a lesson about gambling. Adam comes up with the
idea of texting between them and trying win all Xander’s money but to give
him it back in the end. They all agree and continue their way to Xander’s. They

4. are standing outside and going over the plan one more time to make sureit is
done right. Xander lets them in and tells everyone the budget is £40. They all
agree and startto play the game. Itstarts off with a 3, king and an ace on the
table. Xander grunts but Robert smiles so they increasethe bets and others
fold as Robert messages he has the better hand. Xander wins the game and
everyoneis shocked. Again, the games go through another montage/quick
phaseof cuts to the River, everyoneis out apart from Adam and Xander.
Xander decides to go All in. Adam looks at his hand and looks back and
matches it everyone is shocked, but he wins and as agreed he gives Xander all
the money back and tell him whatwas happening. They both agree they were
both in the wrong and that they will play serious game moreoften and it ends
with a handshake.
