An Integrated Interlocking and Train Control System
Interlocking in Railways ensures safety, reliability of the system. Interlocking integrates various
components of the railways. This paper is exploring the possibilities of integrating these components
in a composite way.
Main components of the rail transport as concerned to the Signalling systems are, Points and crossings
(Crossing or Switches), Train detecting devices like Track circuits or Axle counters, Highway grade
crossings (Level crossings), Conflicting signals, Block system (Absolute Block or Automatic Block or
Moving block), Train control system etc. These components are individually interlocked with various
software.
This paper suggests an Integrated Interlocking and Train Control System. The proposal is mooted
here with a view that, for all interlocking and train control systems the inputs are one or the other
field components.
When the components are common, why not to use the inputs of these components like Points and
crossings, Train detecting devices, Level crossings gates and Block System in an umbrella?
“Sampoorn” An Integrated Interlocking and Train Control System integrates all these field components
to achieve the basic interlocking, Train control and Block system.
