The Romanian pottery is the craft most valued and it
was sacredly passed on from one generation to
another.
3. HOREZU – THE CORE
OF ROMANIAN
POTTERY
• Since 2005 Horezu pottery is on
UNESCO list as, even today, the
craftsmen are using exactly the
same techniques and raw materials
as hundreds of years ago.
• Both men and women have
important roles in making pottery
and the uniqueness of Horezu
Romanian pottery derives from the
rigor they follow the traditional
process.
4. ICONOGRAPHY
• This is an unusual
painting technique that
was primarily used in
Romania through the
centuries to paint
traditional Romanian
Icons on glass.
5. PAINTED EGGS
• The most readily recognizable
examples of Romanian art are
the famous painted eggs,
especially prominent around
Easter time. Painting of real
hollowed-out eggs was an
integral part of preparations for
this festival of renewal.
Women and children gathered
in someone's home and spent
a day painting and gossiping.
6. TEXTILE WEAVING
• Textile weaving is the most widespread
craft in Romania, handed down from
generation to generation, using
distinctive family patterns along with
those specific to different districts.
Looms still are common in homes and
women weave and embroider from
childhood through old age.

into rugs, wall
hangings, table
covers and clothing
8. EMBROIDERY
• Embroidery on folk
costumes worn for
holidays and special
occasions (like weddings)
follows strict regional
patterns and serves also
as a sort of secret
language known only to
people within the
different regions.
9. WOODEN ART
• Maramures is the area to see
the art of woodwork. Homes
are trimmed in elaborately
carved wood, wooden gates
and even fences are intricately
carved. Historically, in this
area, a family's community
status was displayed through
the gate – the more elaborate,
the more important the family.
10. MERRY CEMETARY
• The Romanian “Merry
Cemetery” of Sapanta, a tiny
village in the Valley of
Maramures is unlike any other
cemetery in the world.
• This graveyard presents a very
unusual and different way to
look at death.
• Each of its gravestones is
carved in cheerful colors and
darkly-humorous poems that
offer a glimpse into the lives of
the dead.
11. ROCK SCULPTURE
OF DECEBALUS
• The statue of Dacian king
Decebal, carved in the rocky
bank of the Danube River, is
the tallest rock sculpture in
Europe, 42.9 m in height and
31.6 m in width.
• It was commissioned by
Romanian businessman Iosif
Constantin Drăgan and it took
10 years, from 1994 to 2004, for
twelve sculptors to finish it.
12. ARTS OF ROMANIA
• Works of Brâncuși are in various locales, but one of the
finest collections is in the city of Târgu Jiu.
• "The Endless Column" (Coloana Infinita), "The Gate of the
Kiss" (Poarta Sarutului), "The Table of Silence" (Masa
Tacerii) and "The Alley of Chairs" (Aleea Scaunelor) are
displayed in the city's main park as indicated by the great
sculptor.

14. GEORGE ENESCU
• George Enescu was a
Romanian composer,
violinist, pianist,
conductor, and teacher.
He is regarded by many
as Romania's most
important musician.
15. STEFAN LUCHIAN
•Ștefan Luchian was a Romanian
painter, famous for his
landscapes and still life works.
•This is a self-portrait from 1909.
16. EMIL CIORAN
• Emil Cioran was a Romanian
philosopher and essayist, who
published works in both Romanian
and French.
• His work has been noted for its
pervasive philosophical pessimism,
and frequently engaged with issues
of suffering, decay, and nihilism.
17. EUGEN IONESCU
• Eugène Ionesco was a Romanian-French
playwright who wrote mostly in French,
and one of the foremost figures of the
French Avant-garde theatre. Beyond
ridiculing the most banal situations,
Ionesco's plays depict the solitude and
insignificance of human existence in a
tangible way.
18. MIHAI EMINESCU
•Mihai Eminescu was a
Romantic poet, novelist and
journalist, often regarded as
the most famous and
influential Romanian poet.
