The document discusses National Energy Awareness Month and Weatherization Day, and summarizes the goals and services of the U.S. Department of Energy's Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). WAP works to improve energy efficiency and reduce costs for low-income households through free services like air sealing, insulation, and heating system repairs. It saves families an average of 15% annually on energy bills and cuts carbon dioxide emissions. The Tri-County Community Action Agency has a long history of providing these weatherization services to low-income residents in Virginia through funding from the state government's Department of Housing and Community Development.
1. October is National Energy Awareness Month, and October 30 is designated as
National Weatherization Day.
MISSION
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Weatherization Assistance Program
(Weatherization) is the nation’s core program for delivering energy efficiency
services to low-income households. Every year, Weatherization generates
significant benefits for low-income families and communities across the nation.
Weatherization measures create average annual cost savings of at least 15 % per
home, at current energy prices, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by an average
of one ton per weatherized house. Weatherization alleviates the high-energy burden
faced by low-income Americans, enabling them to gain increased financial
independence.
Tri-County Community Action Agency, INC. has a long standing commitment to
conserve its resources and to help low-income households through its
Weatherization Assistance Program.
Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has
administered the Weatherization Assistance Program since its inception in 1976,
providing a variety of state and federal resources through many community action
agencies, housing authorities, and departments of local government that serve
people in every county in the state of Virginia.
Virginia local weatherization program providers are focusing on residential energy
efficiency and as an example, with updated diagnostics metering tools, approaches to
electric baseload energy usage and combustion appliance testing.
