  2. 2. 2021 QUICK RECAP • All 92 counties had 4-H members submit projects to the State Fair • 9112 static projects • 8000 + animals competed in shows • Almost 100,000 Indiana Youth participate in 4-H STEM education annually STEM Partnerships • 8,000 youth participated in computer science STEM- county events • 300 youth competed in the Fluid Power Challenge • Maker Space • 3,800 youth participated in UAV programming 4-H Round-up-Purdue University
  3. 3. 2021 QUICK RECAP Ag Research- • Professor Verma has developed is developing a paper test to monitor Bovine respiratory disease a $900 million world-wide problem • PACs are running full steam ahead on all types of research to provide the latest agronomic information to the agriculture industry • On-farm research is pushing forward with an aggressive plan to increase research tuned to farmers’ needs • Extension developed digital ag curriculum to provide the latest tools for precision technology “The experiences, certifications and education prepare them to immediately enter the workforce or move on to a collegiate program with significant advantages.”- Parent of a graduate at Heartland Career Center
  4. 4. 2021 QUICK RECAP • 620,000 people attended a Purdue Extension learning event. 62% increase in 2020 • 1,550 completed Farm Stress programming • Extension MHFA team has trained nearly 1000 people to understand the signs of mental health issues and action plans to combat the issues. • 43% of Indiana private pesticide applicators completed a PARP session in 2020

MASTER GARDENER & GROWING TOGETHER 2019 – 3,000 MG volunteers clocked over 175,000 volunteer hours (4 million dollars worth) MG volunteers donated 73, 052 pounds of produce from demonstration gardens Growing Together- SNAP-Ed 14 counties participated in 21 gardens in 2020 7,200 pounds of fresh produce for 10,000 residents
  6. 6. FUNDING FOR EXTENSION Funding Sources- • Smith-Lever (Federal funding) • State funding • County funding • Grants, fees and donations 1. State funding in 2021 = 2001 funding 2. Federal Funding has been straight-lined 3. Counties graciously have given modest increases

EXTENSION FINANCIAL OPTIONS • Build Back America Plan • Fees (Private vs Public Good) • Grants and other funding (gifts) 2022 revenue- 23.1 million 2022 expenses- 24.1 million We need a million to maintain current services. • Educators are asked to raise $4,000/year • Senior administration is tasked to apply for grants at $1,000,000 or more
  8. 8. HOW CAN WE SUPPORT EXTENSION • County-based Extension is the strongest system. • Get involved with PCARET • Encourage local, state and federal officials about Extension’s role in our communities • Assist educators in finding funding opportunities for salary savings

  10. 10. 2021 FARM INCOME/EXPENSES •Fuel and oil – $15.8 billion (a 32.2 percent increase) •Poultry and livestock products – $33.5 billion (a 15.6 percent increase) •Feed – $64.4 billion (a 13.4 percent increase from 2020) •Fertilizer – $27.5 billion (a 12.5 percent increase) •Interest – $20.6 billion (a 6.6 percent increase) •Cash rents – $18.9 billion (a 5.1 percent increase) •Labor – $37.9 billion (a 3.5 percent increase) •Seed – $400 million (1.8 percent increase) Food & Agricultural Policy Research Institute (FAPRI) at the University of Missouri
