16. • The impacts on mass tourism and package holidays can
be overcrowding of public places, which can lead to
littering and pollution on wide scale. Additionally, this
can link to limited places for locals as well as resources
used up by the tourist with none left for the locals. They
are too economic dependant upon the tourist industry
so it is more at risk and vulnerable. They can be some
degree of racism towards certain tourist groups and risk
of terrorist attacks, as well as organised crime can
develop such as human trafficking or drugs on the party
scene of the destination. More tourists mean there is a
higher demand for hotels so land is built up and this
ruins the natural scenery as well as space for the locals.
Foreign companies dominate the economy so a
significant percentage is not equally distributed to the
locals and there will be leakage.
