1. In its continuing effort to chronicle and archive the history of North Nashville, the
North Nashville Heritage Project is currently seeking former and current residents of
the community who attended or worked at Nashville’s Pearl High School to par-
ticipate in an oral history project sponsored by the Tennessee State University De-
partment of History, Political Science, Geography, and Africana Studies.
Those interested in sharing and archiving their stories about the impact the school, a
teacher, or an administrator had on their lives should contact Dr. Learotha Williams
Jr., assistant professor of History, who will be conducting the interviews. He can be
reached via email at lwilli22@tnstate.edu or by phone at 615.963.5513.
Established in 2010, with the assistance of students enrolled in an Introduction to
Public History course at Tennessee State University, the North Nashville Heritage
Project seeks to encourage a greater understanding of the history of North Nashville
and its historic relationship to the greater Nashville community. The project is espe-
cially interested in the community’s oral history, historic natural and built environ-
ment, and material culture.
