5. WORKING PRINCIPLE
5
1-4 : Water is pumped into the boiler at high pressure.
4-5 : Water is converted into steam at constant pressure.
5-7 : Expansion of steam in the steam turbine.
7-1 : Rejection of heat into the condenser.
6. COAL HANDLING PLANT
It consist three parts
Wagon unloading system
Conveying system
Crushing system
8700 tons coal is required
per day for each unit.
Coal is supplied from Parsa
kanta mines Chhattisgarh.
6
8. BOILER
8
Water is converted to generate steam
Types
1.Water tube boiler
2.Fire tube boiler
A boiler is always designed to absorb
max amount of heat released in process
of combustion.
FD fan:-To supply air for combustion of
fuel in furnace.
ID fan:-For sucking out flue gases and
discharge to atmosphere.

10. eCONOMISER
10
It is a heat exchanger
device that heats up fluids
or recovers residual heat
from the combustion
product.
It improves the efficiency
of plant 10-12%.
Temperature : 315° C
11. STEAM TURBINE
11
It is a machine in which
shaft is rotated by impact
or reaction of steam on
blades of turbine.
When Steam is used then
it is called steam turbine.

14. GENERATOR
14
An electrical generator is a
machine which converts
mechanical energy into
electrical energy through
electro mechanical energy
conversion.
The generator is driven by
directly coupled steam
turbine at a speed of 3000
rpm.

16. Cooling towers
• The two cooling towers of the
facility are 202 metres tall and the
tallest in the world.
• A cooling tower is a heat
rejection device which extracts
waste heat to the atmosphere
through the cooling of a water
steam to a lower temperature.
16
17. Electrostatic precipitator
17
ESP is mostly used for
removing the suspended
particles from the flue
gases.
Consists of two electrodes
• Emitting Electrode
• Collecting Electrode
The motor operated
hammer is used for
removed deposited
particles.
18. Ash Handling Plant
Electrostatic Precipitator is
used in ash handling plant to
remove fly ash.
Use of ash
• Manufacturing of building
materials.
• Making of concrete.
• Manufacturing of cement.
• Road construction etc.
18
19. TRANSFORMER
19
It is a device that transfers
electric energy from
one alternating-
current circuit to one or
more other circuits, either
increasing (stepping up) or
reducing (stepping down)
the voltage.
Various Transformers at
KaTPP
• Generating Transformer
• Unit Auxiliary
Transformer
• Station Transformer
20. SWITCHYARD
20
Switchyard is the interconnector between generation and
transmission and the same voltage is maintained in
switchyard.
Switch consists of the following instruments-
• Lightening Arresters
• Current Transformer
• Voltage Transformer
• Capacitive Voltage Transformer
• Bus Bar
• Isolators
• Insulators
• Circuit Breakers
• Protective Relays
