COAL HANDLING PLANT<br />FUNCTION - Automatic feeding of coal to boiler furnace<br />PROCESS - 1) Coal is unloaded from rail wagons in IV unit of KSTPS <br /> 2) Coal is sent to crusher where coal is reduced to very small size<br />Consumption of coal/Unit of electricity - 0.6 Kg<br />Consumption/day - 20000 tons/day<br />DEVICES - <br /> Wagon Tripler - 5 (32 wagons/hr) <br />2) Vibration Feeders - Electromagnetic Type<br />3) Conveyor belts<br /> Crushers - 6 (550 tons/hr) <br />

  20. 20. Benefit – Increase efficiency of plant</li></ul>REHEATER<br />Reheater are used to raise the temp of steam which has been expanded once in high pressure turbine. They used the heat absorbed from the flue gases.<br />
  21. 21. AIR PRI-HEATER<br />Function - To raise the temperature of air<br />Benefit - Increases the efficiency of plant <br />Type - plate, tubular, regenerative<br /> KSTPS - uses REGENERATIVE type<br />

GENERATOR<br />It converts mechanical power into electrical power.<br />PRINCIPLE- Electromechanical energy<br /> conversion<br />TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION- <br /> Apparent output – 137.5 MVA<br /> Active output - 110 MW<br /> Power factor – 0.85 lag<br /> Excitation voltage - 230 Volt<br /> Rated voltage – 11 KV<br /> Rated speed – 3000 rpm<br /> Phase connection – star-star <br />
  24. 24. ECONOMISER<br />Function-To extract some part of<br /> heat from flue gases & heat the<br />feedwater<br />Process- Counter flow of flue<br />gases & water<br />Benefits- Increases efficiency<br />
  25. 25. CONDENSER<br />To provide lowest economic heat rejection temperature for the steam. Thus saving on steam required per unit of electricity.<br />To convert exhaust steam to water for reuse thus saving on feed water requirement.<br />
  26. 26. COLLING TOWER<br />It converts hot water from into cold water.<br />Its purpose is to re use of the water.<br />Its increase the efficiency of plant.<br />It increase the per capital investment of plant.<br />In K.S.T.P.S. only unit 6th and 7th has cooling tower.<br />

ELECTROSTATIC PRECIPITATOR<br />Used for the removal of suspended particles and fly ash from industrial flue gases<br /> PRINCIPLE- Produces an electrostatic field which attracts the ionized carbon particles and other such particulates which cause environmental pollution.<br /> <br />22<br />
