INTRODUCTION
India is the second most populous country of
the world.
POPULATION EXPLOSION literally mean ‘a
sudden ,large increase in size and number of
population’.
The current population of india is 1.41 billion
approx.
India is 2nd most populous country after china.
DEFINITION
POPULATION= Population
is defined as the group of
organism of same species
occupying a particular space.
POPULATION
EXPLOSION= Population
explosion is rapid growth of
worlds population over past
one hundred years result
from difference between
birth rate and death rate.
CAUSES
Increase in
birth rate.
Decrease in
death rate.
Increased
immigration.
Decrease in
infant
mortality
rate.
Better
medical
facility.
Illiteracy
IMPACT OF POPULATION EXPLOSION

THEORY OF POPULATION EXPLOSION
 MALTHUSIANTHEORY OF POPULATION
GROWTH
The theory was proposed byThomas Robert
Malthus. It explains that population grows in
geometrical fashion.it would be double in 25
years at this rate. However, the food supply
grows in an arithematic progression. Food
progression increase at a slower rate than
population.
 CHECKS ON POPULATION
People will die due to lack of food supply .
adversities such as epidemics ,starvation ,
famines and other natural calamities will crop
up which are named as positive checks by
Malthus.
On the contrary, there are man made checks
known as preventive checks.
POSITIVE
CHECKS
 Famine
 Earthquakes
 Foods
 Wars
 Epidemics
 Late marriage
 Self control
 Simple living
PREVENTIVE
CHECKS
 MARXIST THEORY ON
POPULATION GROWTH
Karl Marx was a philosopher and the founder of
modern communism. According to him:
》There can be no natural or universal law of
population
》Population growth is related to economic system
and both are inseparable
》To Marx poverty and unemployment were not
due to increased population ,but due to capitalist
system which failed to provide jobs.
POPULATION CONTROL
 SOCIAL MEASURES:
1}Minimum age of marriage
2} Child marriage restrain act of 1978
3}Raising the status of women
4}Educational development
5}Adoption
6}Social security
7}Political development
 ECONOMIC MEASURES:
1} More employment and oppurtunities
2} Development of agriculture and industry
3}Standard of living
4}Urbanization
OTHER MEASURES:
1} Late marriages
2}Self control
3}Recreational facilites
4}Publicity
5}Family planning
PURPOSE OF NATIONAL POPULATION
CONTROL PROGRAMMES
 To obtain an accurate picture of the factors
which contribute to a rwiuapid increase in
population.
 to gain full understanding of human fertility and
means of regulating it.
 to devise speedy ways of educating public.
 to make family planning counselling an intergral
part of service in hospital and heath centres.
 Less overcrowding especially in coastal areas.
POPULATION CONTROL
PROGRAMME:
 NATIONAL POPULATION POLICY 2000
 NATIONAL FAMILYWELFARE
PROGRAMME 1951
 POST PARTUM PROGRAMME 1969
 NATIONAL POPULATION COMISSION 2005
