3. Futurism
It was an artistic and social movement that
originated in Italy in the early 20th century.
It emphasized concept of future including;
speed, technology, youth and violence, objects
such as the car, airplane, and the industrial city.
The word Futurism coined by Italian writer
Filippo Marinetti, to reflect his goal of
discarding the art of past and celebrating
change.

The Italian Futurism is the first art movement
that can be considered an avant garde
movement.
The futurist practiced in in every medium of
art , including; painting, sculpture, ceramics,
graphic design, interior design, urban design,
theatre, film, textiles, literature, music, and
architecture.

1876-1944
The founder of Futurism
was the Italian writer
Filippo Tommaso
Marinetti.
Marinetti launched the
movement in his Futurist
Menifesto, an article
published in the French
daily newspaper Le Figaro
on 20 February 1909.

Merinetti expressed a passionate loathing of
everything old, especially political and artistic
tradition. “we want no part of it, the past” he
wrote, “we, the young, and strong Futurist!”

It officially began woth Marinetti’s menifesto
in 1909.
The Menifesto was signed by
Balla,
Carra,
Boccioni,
Russolo,
And Soffic.

and ideological interest that affected
deeply culture and even social costumes.

The futurists define themselves as anti-romantic
and they wanted to follow their own mood and
works are highly emotive.
They exalt science and techniques, but they wanted
to be them as poetic and lyric.
They assure they are socialist, but they are not
interested in working class fights and they consider
the intellectuals of avant garde as the aristocracy of
the future.
Their interest in an art gorged out of beauty of
speech and a glorification of war.
Physical movement as log as, speed is concerned, is
the cohesive father that allows the fusion of object
and space.

They aimed at eliminating the basic dualism of
the traditional culture.
The artist must underline Dynamism to make it
more emotive.
Forms are full of freedom, breaking the
elements, but some times is not completely
abstract.
important use of color in contrasts with cubism
to which it keeps some similes in forms .
Strong lines and combination with pointillist
techniques.
Composition full of movement.
Subjects compromise with society.

Surrealism, Dada, and to a greater degree
Precisionism, Rayonism, and Vorticim.
