LAKES AND RIVERS
Turkey is a rich country for its fresh water sources, there are
many rivers, lakes, lagoons and reservoirs around the country.
Lake Apolyont, Bursa:
Especially the Eastern Anatolian region and the north of the
Taurus mountains in the Mediterranean region, also known as the
Lakes Region, are very rich for their lakes.

LAKE VANthe largest lake in Turkey.
It’s 3755 square kilometres and there is an island with an
ancient church on it.
LakeTuz (Salt) :
It provides 40 % ofTurkey’s salt production.
Some times of the year it becomes red
when the alg population in it becomes
too much.

LAKE BAFA and NATURE PARK
Lake Bafa or Lake
Bafa Nature Park
is a lake and a
nature reserve
situated in
southwestern
Turkey.
Anatolian peninsula covers a large area of Turkey,
approximately 97% of the total area. It is generally a high
plateau covered with several high mountains and mountain
ranges especially in the east of the country.
The existence of many valleys and high mountains, snow
precipitation and therefore its melting in the Spring, and
the climate of different regions favor the formation of lakes
and rivers.
Most of the water from these rivers are used for the
irrigation of the agricultural fields, but most important of all
for the hydroelectric energy with several dams built on
them.
Kızılırmak : meaning Red river in Turkish, is 1,355
km long and is the longest river of Turkey which
rises and ends within the country.
Yeşilırmak: Yeşilırmak , meaning Green river in Turkish, is
approximately 519 km long. It rises from Köse mountain in
the north of Sivas, passes from Tokat , Amasya and Samsun
provinces, and empties into the Black Sea.
It’s 2800 km long and gives life to three countries. It
pours to Persian Gulf. Its basin is 500.000 square
kilometre. There are five big hydroelectric power
plants on it and they provide 30 % of Turkey’s
hydroelectric power production.
There are mountain ranges on every side of Turkey:
 The Northern Anatolian Mountain Range,
 The Interior Anatolian Massif Range,
 The Southern Anatolian Mountain Range and
 The Southeastern Anatolian Mountain Range.

MOUNT AĞRI : 5165 m.
Turkey's highest mountain Ararat, has a legendary status due to its
geologic location and the fact that it is believed to have been the final
resting place of Noah’s Ark. This peak, mentioned in the Bible, has
several names in different languages, the main ones being Ararat, Kuh -
i Nuh and Cebel ul Haristir.

Mount Erciyes , is a volcano in Turkey.
It is a large stratovolcano. Popular ski-
center.

Tendürek a shield volcano located in the Ağrı and Van
provinces of eastern Turkey, close to the borders with Iran.
The most popular ski center in Turkey. It’s in Bursa
and can be easy reached by car or cable cars.

rich in legends and history in
Manisa Province, what is
now Turkey's Aegean
Region.
MOUNT NEMRUT: (2150 m)
Nemrut is a dormant volcano in Eastern Turkey. With archeological
value, it’s UNESCO World Heritage since 1987.It contains the tomb of
King Antiochus I of Commagene Kingdom in a tumulus.

There are seven lakes in Bafra Plain.
Endangered Animals
They live in Mediterrean.
Monk Seal (Phoca Monachus)
There are only 500 of them in the world and 100 live in
Aegean region in Turkey, near İzmir.
Bold İbis (Geronticus eremita)
These birds are almost being extinct as very few of them left in the world,
in Turkey for example it can be seen only in the Birecik district of Sanliurfa.
In 2001 there were only 42 of them but after a careful program now the
number has reached to 240.
Lynx
The first Eurasian lynx in
Tunceli was photographed
in 2012, when two of them
approached urban areas
due to heavy snow.
Hunting of the lynx was
banned in Turkey in 1990,
which helped conservation
efforts.
 The best place to see a
caracal in this country is in
the national park of Mount
Güllük in Antalya.

Flower İstanbul (Crocus olivieri İstanbulensis)
Only live in İstanbul. Discover by British scientist Brian
Mathew in 1982. The only flower that has the name of the city
it lives in its Latin name.

like marmorean,gypsum,bentonit,pearlite,rock
salt,copper,iron, chromium etc.
At the same time we can sell that materials to other
countries.
 We extract stone coal in Zonguldak
Annual sun power rate for Turkey is 1315 kWh per square meter.Solar
fields are becoming more popular recently.
NATURE PROTECTION IN TURKEY
Ministry of Environment is responsible for
developing strategies / policies to protect these
treasures.
There are also foundations and NGOs who feel
themselves responsible for the environment
and nature.
