Research Project 8613
Research
• Already studied n details in ‘Research Methods in Education C-8604’
Research
• The systematic investigation into and study of materials and
sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions.
Educational research
• Educational research refers to the systematic collection and analysis of
data related to the field of education. Research may involve a variety of
methods and various aspects of education including student
learning, teaching methods, teacher training, and classroom dynamics.
Why Educational Research
• Improve the practices
• Add the knowledge
• Address the gaps in knowledge
• Expand knowledge
• Replicate knowledge (Test the different findings)
• To identify truth regarding Enrolment, retention, dropout, quality of Education.
• To build new knowledge regarding the methodology & pedagogy.
• To solve a problem related to classroom, institution, administrative level, policy level.
• Basic Research: it is conducted with the purpose of theory development and
refinement – knowledge for the sake of knowledge
• Applied Research: it is conducted with the purpose of applying and testing
theories and evaluating their usefulness in solving different problems
• Evaluation Research: it is conducted to facilitate decision making regarding the
relative worth of two or more alternative actions
• Research and Development: it is conducted to find and develop effective
products for use in educational settings.
• Action Research: it is conducted to solve problems at
the local level. This type of research we are going to
conduct as a requirement of this code 8613.
Action Research
Stephen Corey defines the action research as
“it’s a process in which teachers try to identify the problems being faced by
students in classroom and solve them in a scientific way for the betterment of
learners” (Corey, 1953).
Calhoun defines action research as “a systematic process to know what is
happening in the school and take actions to make it better place to learn” (E.F,
1994)
Purpose of Action Research
• For the improvement of teachers’ practice.
• For the betterment of learners to make them enable to learn more by solving their
problems.
• It helps the teachers to evaluate him/her and improve his/her teaching techniques.
• It helps the teachers to acquire more knowledge, skills and qualities for their
professional development to fulfill their responsibilities.
• Its try to make the school environment more comfortable.
• A personal analysis and self-evaluation look for his/her own improvement.
Characteristics of Action Research
• Action research does not concern in building theories but focus on the solution of
problems. Immediate solution of problems within specific time.
• It is helpful for teachers to improve their teaching methodology and to point out
the deficiencies and to improve them.
• Gives the teachers a systematic way to identify the problems and take actions to
resolve.
• To make the classroom environment more conducive and effective so that learns
may learn more and better
• It improves the work conditions and build cooperative attitude among teachers.
What is NOT an Action Research?
 NOT a library project where we theoretically learn about a topic that interests us.
 NOT an attempt to find out what is wrong, rather focused on improving a particular practice/situation.
 NOT about doing research on or about people or finding all available information on a topic looking for
the correct answers. It involves people working to improve their skills, techniques, and strategies.
 NOT about learning why we do certain things. But it is about how we can do things better. It is about
how we can change our instruction to impact students’ learning.
Why Action Research in BEd Program?
• What we have studied about action research so far, we can say that action
research helps a teacher to solve classroom problems and improve teaching-
learning process.
• As a teacher, especially as a novice teacher, we face many problems in
classroom. Action Research provides us a way to solve these problems more
systematically and efficiently.
• Research Project 8613 provides you an opportunity to understand Action
Research.
What Will We Do?
• Select a topic based on given theme and sub-themes (how will select our
topic will be discussed on Day 3)
• Ask your questions in the whats app group, and wait your guide will respond
you
• Carefully read / listen messages of your guide and work accordingly
• Always meet the deadlines
Some important points to remember
• Only HANDWRITTEN manual will be uploaded (max of 5 MB file). Typed work
will be graded ZERO.
• The manual can be downloaded from your LMS 8613 portal
• There is space on top for your roll number on each page. You MUST write your
Roll No. in the given box on each page of your work.
• You MUST get your topic approved from your supervisor till July 20. No late
approval will be accepted.
• No language other than English will be accepted for writing your project report.
• No extension in submission date – in any case whatsoever, so you need to
submit your work on your LMS portal as soon as you complete your work.
• Don’t wait for the last date
Paid Work / Copied Work
• Conducting action research and writing its report is a simple task, especially
under the supervision of an expert. No need to panic and waste your
precious money in buying from market.
• University has devised a very strict policy to discourage such activities. If
University gets any clue that you have uploaded a paid work, you will be
debarred for at least a period of 03 years. So please avoid it. The same policy
is for copied work. If two students upload the same work, both will be
debarred.
Day 2
• Tomorrow, we will discuss Data Collection Tools insha Allah
