This document discusses the physics behind mixer grinders. It begins with a brief history of the mixer grinder, originating from Herbert Johnson's invention in 1908. It then discusses key parts of the mixer grinder like the motor, blades, and jars. The working principle is that the motor converts electricity to mechanical energy using a coil and magnetic field to rotate the blades at high speed. Higher wattage motors between 500-1000W are recommended for home use. The document discusses construction, working, applications, maintenance and advantages and disadvantages of mixer grinders.

2. HISTORY
• The basic history of the Mixer Grinder
originates from Herbert Johnson’s ideas to
make life in the kitchen easier
• He came up with the idea in 1908 after
watching a professional baker struggle with a
bowl and a spoon.
• Johnson, founder of Hogart Mfg, invented
the first 80 quart Hogart Model Mixer
Grinder in 1915.
3. 1
• In 1963, Mr.Mathur floated a company
called 'Power Control and Appliances
Company'. Four employees from
Siemens India joined him.
2
• Within two years, they had a workable
electric motor, and by 1970, they had
designed a single jar for dry mixing as
well as wet grinding.
4. INTRODUCTION
When electricity is provided to a mixer
grinder, the blades start rotating. A motor
converts electricity to mechanical energy. A
coil is placed between magnetic field. When, a
current runs in the coil, the coil experiences a
magnetic force which causes it to rotate.
Wattage and speed are two important
factors to consider while buying a mixer
grinder. Mixers with 500 watts to
750 watts are ideal for kitchen use. Make
sure you select one with a
higher wattage for ideal results.

the grinding experience even with
tough ingredients like black whole
gram (dal) for preparing tasty vadas
and dosas.

3 Stainless Steel Jars.
7. It is basically the difference between motor watts. Simply speaking,
higher watt means machine generates more RPM and takes lesser time
to grind any item. The jars are also large to hold more amounts of
ingredients at once in 750W mixer, in comparison to 500W.
Why Choose 750 Watts Mixer Grinder Over 500
Watts?
8. The motor used in mixer grinder is generally a universal motor.
The motor has stator and rotor.
The stator is made of laminated steel. There are poles on the stator.
Usually two poles are there. Field coils are wound on each pole.
The rotor, also called armature is also made of laminated steel, has slots and is
tightly fitted with the shaft.
Rotor windings are placed on rotor slots.
CONSTRUCTION
9. Ends of rotor windings are permanently connected to commutator
segments. Commutator segments are around the shaft on one side.
There are two brushes that make contact with two commutator
segments at a particular instant. As shaft rotates, the commutator
segments that come in contact with the brushes also change.
Field windings in the stator and rotor windings are connected in
series through the rotor commutator. Universal motor can run on
both AC and DC. They have high starting torque and speed.
12. WORKING
The most important thing behind the working of the mixer grinder is
the motor. The motor of the product decides whether the mixer grinder
will be a good choice for you, or not.
For an ideal Indian home kitchen, where the normal grinding is done
on a regular basis, you should look for a mixer grinder with a motor of
at least 700 Watts.
13. BY choosing a mixer grinder with at least 700 watts power, you
can easily perform all your kitchen needs. And although you can
easily choose a more powerful motor, but as per the Indian kitchen’s
perspective, a 700-1000 watt power would be more than enough.
Choosing a higher powered motor can have higher noise and
vibrations which may not be a good choice for home kitchens. This
motor power up the mixer.
14.
15. Grinder’s rotatory blades where the jars are attached, These
jars have sharp blades that mix and blend the ingredients by
revolving around the axis at high speed.
The speed of the blades is determined by the power of the
motor, and that’s the reason why you should buy a mixer
grinder with a powerful motor.
16.
17. Another important aspect of a mixer grinder
efficiency is the sharpness of the blade.
The perfect combo of powerful motor and sharp
blades builds a perfect mixer grinder that you should
buy for your home.
18. The universal motor works on both AC and DC
supply.
It has been characterized to have higher power output
with a smaller size and starting torque to be high at a
lower speed and can carry high loads.
A mathematical model of the universal motor for a
mixer grinder is proposed and developed using
MATLAB/Simulink. The losses are obtained for both
AC & DC fed universal motor.
19.
20. The motor is analyzed in terms of its efficiency and torque
characteristics at varying speeds. It has been observed that the
efficiency and torque with respect to varied speed shows an
improvement in DC in comparison with AC fed motor.
In the 230V AC universal motor with a speed of 18000 RPM,
efficiency will be around 52.16% and remain will be the losses
i.e. 47.84%.
The efficiency of the DC operating condition is more than the
efficiency of the AC operating condition of the universal motor.
21. APPLICATION
They can be used for a wide variety of food
products and purposes: Mixer grinders are versatile
devices which you can use in your kitchen daily.
You can either whip various liquids to create
shakes, milkshakes and ice creams or you
can use them to grind and chop harder food items
such as meats, veggies and nuts.
22. MAINTENANCE
Procedure to sharpen mixie jar blade.
Put 1 bowl of salt on mixie jar.
Procedure of cleaning the grinder.
On a small bowl put 3 tsp baking soda.
Add 3 tsp vinegar and mix it properly.
Brush or pin can not enter.
Make sure you are cleaning the power cable
also.
Check the mixer grinder after cleaning.
23. ADVANTAGE
Variety of food
Different Speeds
Quick and effortless
Easy to handle
Affordable price
Easy maintenance
24. DISADVANTAGE
Noisy
The sound of the mixer grinder is often very loud and irritating.
Sharp blades
Often while taking out the ground food materials from the mixer
grinder, if you are not very cautious, your finger might be wounded.
