Comparison between VAR system and VCR system
3. The vapour absorption refrigeration system is one of the oldest
method of producing refrigerating effect.
The first refrigerator developed on this system was invented by
Ferdinand Carré in 1860.
Basically Ammonia(NH3= compressible fluid) is used as
refrigerant in this system.
Low grade energy i.e. Heat energy is used as input energy in this
system.
4. NEED OF VAR SYSTEM:-
If we use VCR system for achieving high rate of cooling then we require:-
1) Very big size compressor(for increasing pressure ratio).
2) High amount of high grade energy i.e. electricity.
3) Maintenance cost will be higher.
So for eliminating all these problems we use VAPOUR ABSORPTION
REFRIGERATION SYSTEM.
5. CONSTRUCTION(PARTS):-
1. Evaporator:-
Provide cooling to surrounding area.
Convert liquid refrigerant into vapour refrigerant.
2. Throttle valve:-
Also called expansion valve.
Reduces the pressure and temperature of liquid refrigerant.
3. Condenser:-
Basically condenses the vapour refrigerant into liquid refrigerant.
4. Absorber:-
Initially contains water as absorbent.
Make solution of ammonia and water (NH3+H2O).
5. Generator:-
Main function to heat the solution (NH3+H2O).
Convert into vapour and filter ammonia vapour.
8. APPLICATIONS OF VAR SYSTEM:-
Steam power plants i.e. waste heat of powerplant utilized for refrigeration.
Large factories and commercial buildings.
used in areas where electricity is expensive.
9. ADVANTAGES OF VAR SYSTEM:-
1) Less wear since it has no moving parts.
2) Less noise due to absence of moving parts.
3) Less maintenance cost.
4) Corrosion problems are comparatively less.
5) Used for high rate of cooling.
6) Input energy can be of various forms i.e. steam, solar energy,
furnaces exhaust.
10. DISADVANTAGES OF VAR SYSTEM:-
1. COP is low.
2. System is bulky and requires large space.
3. Initial installation cost is high.
4. Proper setup is required since it has various accessories i.e.
absorber, analyser and condenser etc.
11. COMPARISON B/W VAR AND VCR SYSTEM:-
VAR SYSTEM VCR SYSTEM
1. Uses low grade energy i.e. Heat
energy.
2. Working operation is more
noisy.
3. 3. Used for domestic utility.
4. 4. COP is high.
5. Utilises comparatively less space.
6. Less costly.
1. Uses high grade energy i.e.
Electricity.
2. Its working operation is less
noisy.
Used for industrial purpose.
. COP is comparatively low.
5. Utilises more space.
6. More costly.
