Vipul Sharma is a 3rd year computer science student at UPES, Dehradun specializing in mainframe technology. He is interested in IoT and how it can be used to collect and analyze data from connected devices to optimize processes and generate useful insights. By 2020, it is estimated there will be 26 billion IoT units generating 44 zillion bytes of data daily. Vipul would like to develop the software side of IoT to intelligently collect and process this data in order to provide value to businesses through metrics like home electricity usage or consumer preferences. He believes the smart analysis and use of IoT data is what truly enables its potential.

Internet of Things
1. Internet of Things
Name: Vipul Sharma

Twitter Id:vips14041994
University: UPES,Dehradun
Year/Semester: 3rd /6th
Branch: Computer Science
with specialization in mainframe technology
2. Introduction: IoT
IoT is a scenario when things in our environment connect and
communicate with other things without human intervention.
This interconnection among "things" enables us to develop smarter
environment with the help of smarter devices, smarter things.
for example : A chair/seat in cinema hall communicating its status with all other
chairs, collect data and analyze it so as to get user preferences and real-time
monitoring.
IoT generates huge amount of data which needs to be stored, processed
and analyzed in a all different way then traditional methods
This connection of things can be on LAN or WAN(internet) which adds
ease of access.
3. Why IoT? - Data
The ultimate aim of technology is to make human life simpler and that is
what exactly IoT does, which is why I chose IoT. But how?
IoT is just a mere connection of things, but when we logically put brains
into this connection and smartly analyze the data to serve humans, we
step towards achieving the ultimate aim of technology.
Out of the immense data generated, I can extract and analyze, useful &
important data smartly so as to get optimized result out of the IoT network.
I love to play with data. IoT gives me a chance to think from a all new
dimension involving data, people and machines.
4. IoT in five years
By 2020 we will have
26 Billion IoT units,
$300 billion of revenue,
44 ZB of data
Enormous dependability on IoT devices will result in
generation of huge amount of data and information.
Solutions such as Smartcities, Smartgrids, Smartthings
would dominate the technology and market.
The manufacturers and industrialist would take statistics
and data from IoT devices so as to generate profits and
enhance their business.
5. Interest areas
Me being a computer science student have an immense interest in :
Data collection:
It involves deriving ways and locations to collect data from devices .smartly placing sensors and
devices to get data
Data Processing:
Involves ways to process the raw data into useful information and deriving ways to store and fetch
data in an optimum way
Data Analysis:
Involves analyzing the gathered information to generate result oriented data so as to help
business and industries and generate useful result sets
6. If internship awarded
I would like to work upon the software side of the IoT devices developing
smart ways to process the information out of the data generated.
I can:
Devise methods to smartly place IoT devices and collaboratively, as a system
generate information from it, which can collectively be used to generate profit.
The information can also be of monitory value to different business such as
home electricity usage patterns for power companies, personal product
preference for consumer goods companies etc.
In a nutshell I can give the system its smart brain which will generate
revenue from information.
7. Conclusion
Thank You
Internet of Things is a network of things,
it's the intelligent use of the data
that give brains to IoT and make it
SMART.
