How Plants gives us food?
• Green plants are producers.
• Green colour of the plants is due to the
presence of pigment called chlorophyll.
• Plants prepare their food in the presence
of sunlight, water through process a called
photosynthesis.
• The food is prepared by the plants in the
leaves.
• Food is sent to various part of plant such
as root, stem, flower, fruit etc.
• Excess food prepared by plants are stored
in different parts of the plant. www.morescorecbse.com
List the food stored in
various parts of plant with
example ?
• Foods are stored in Root, Stem, Leaves
Fruits, Flowers, Seeds.
• Root - Radish, Turnip, Carrot
• Stem - Potato, Sugarcane, Ginger
• Leaves - Spinach, cabbage, coriander...
• Fruits - Banana, Mango, Apple.
• Flowers - Cauliflower, Broccoli
• Seeds - Wheat, Peas, Rice.

List the food that we get
from animals?
• Milk from Cow, Buffalo, Goat, Camel.
• Milk is used to prepare various milk products
such as cheese, butter, ghee, curd, ice cream
• Eggs from Hen, Duck, Quail.
• Meat from Hen, Duck, Goat, Fish, Crab.
• Honey from Honeybees.
• Honeybees collect nectar from flowers, they
www.morescorecbse.com
What are the
food habits of
animals?
• Animals cannot
prepare their own
food.
• Animals depend
directly or indirectly
on plants. to
prepare their good.
www.morescorecbse.com
What are the various types of animals?
Based on the food
habits animals are
Categorized into
Herbivores Carnivores
Omnivores Scavengers Parasites
www.morescorecbse.com
What are Herbivores ?
• Herbivores are the
animals that feed only
on green plants.
• Herbivores have sharp,
cutting tooth in front
and flat grinding teeth
at back
• Ex: Cow, Deer, Horses,
Elephants etc.
www.morescorecbse.com
What are Carnivores ?
• Carnivores are the animals
that eat the flesh of other
animals.
• Carnivores generally have
long, sharp teeth, birds
have strong pointed beaks
to tear the flesh.
• Ex: Lions, Tiger, Wolf, Dog,
Eagles etc...
www.morescorecbse.com
What are Omnivores ?
•Omnivores are
the animals that
eat both plants
and animals.
•Ex: Humans, Bear,
crow, cockroach
etc.
www.morescorecbse.com
What are scavengers?
•Some Carnivores and
Omnivores are called as
scavengers.
•They mainly consume
dead bodies of animals to
keep the surroundings
clean
•Ex: Crows, Jackals, Hyenas
etc.
www.morescorecbse.com
What are Parasites?
• Parasites are the small
animals that depend on
other living organisms for
their food.
• Ex: Mosquitoes, fleas,
leeches, bugs etc.
• Some parasites such as
tapeworm, round worm,
hook worm live inside the
body of animal and eat the
food after it is digested by
animals
www.morescorecbse.com
Define Food chain ?
• Food chain is the series of events in an
environment or ecosystem in which one
living organism eats the other and that is
subsequently eaten by larger organism.
• Food chain is the succession of transfers
of matter and energy in the form of food
from organism to another in ecology.
• Food chain shows that all animals
depend directly / indirectly on green
plants for their food
• Ex: Plants → Grasshopper → Frog Snake
Eagle www.morescorecbse.com
