from soccer fields to softball diamonds and courts.
 It’s called playing, but sports activities are more than play.
 Participation in sports improves physical fitness ,coordination, and self-discipline, and gives
children/individuals valuable to learn teamwork

Definition of Sports Injuries
Sports injuries can be defined as the physical alignment that
hinder a person’s sports performance and prevent him/her
from performing .

Minor Sports Injuries
Mild( 1 degree) :
 Mild stretch of ligaments or to direct blow to a Muscle , tearing some fibers.
 क
 There is swelling and pain is felt at the end of full range and there is no loss of functions.
6
Moderate Sports Injuries
Moderate (2 degree) :
 It is stretch of ligaments and tearing of some fibers.
 It impairs the ability of the muscle to contract.
 It slightly affects the performance of player .
7
Severe Sports Injuries
Severe ( 3 degree) :
 It is the result of severe over stretch of a ligament causing a full tear of the injured structure.
 There is significant swelling ,bruising with severe pain even at rest.
8
Macro trauma & Microtrauma
Macro trauma :
 It is the sudden blow on the healthy muscle and tissue of the body.
 It is also called one time injury.
 When macro trauma is not treated proper and the athlete continues to do activity , then it will
turn into micro trauma.
Micro trauma :
 It is over used injury.
 It is generally given to repeated small injuries.
9
Acute & Chronic
Acute injuries:
 Injuries when there is sudden stress on the body with severe pain.
Ex : Ankle sprain, strained back, occur suddenly during activity.
Chronic injuries:
 Chronic injuries are caused by continuous stress on a body part over a long time.
Ex: tennis elbow

Major injury:
 These are those injuries which can affect the performance of the athlete like fracture , tear of
ligament etc.
12
Extrinsic Intrinsic Sports injury
Extrinsic injury:
 These are those injuries which derived from external forces or caused by outside impact. For ex.

Abrasions
Abrasions :-
 It is the injury that occur from a fall on a hard surface that causes other layers of the skin
to rub off.
 In this the skin is partially damaged or scraped especially over the area where the bone is
very close to the skin.
15
Contusion
Contusion:
 It is the severe blow to the muscle.
 Contusion can cause bleeding from ruptured small capillaries that blow to infiltrate muscle
,tendons or other soft tissue.
 Ankle sprain are most common contusion.
16
Laceration and Incision
Laceration :-
 It is a wound of the skin caused by a (not) relatively sharp object.
 It is a jagged or clean break in the skin.
Incision :
 It is a wound of the skin caused by a sharp object.
 Note : Laceration is more dangerous than incision.
17
Hematoma, Bruising and Blisters
Hematoma :-
 It is the injury in which there is collection of blood within the tissues.
Bruising :-
 A bruise is a common skin injury that results in a discoloration of the skin.
 Blood from damaged blood cells deep beneath the skin collects near the surface of the skin,
resulting in what we think of as a black and blue mark.
Blisters :-
 A blister is a pocket of fluid between the upper layers of skin.
 The most common causes are friction, freezing, burning, infection, and chemical burns.
18
Sprain and Strain
Sprain :-
 An injury to a ligament (stretch or tear) that results from overuse or trauma.
 The treatment of a sprain involves applying ice packs, resting and elevating the involved joint,
and using anti-inflammatory medications.
 In severe sprains, orthopedic surgical repair is performed.
Strain :-
 A strain is when a muscle is stretched too much and tears.
 It is also called a pulled muscle. A strain is a painful injury.
 It can be caused by an accident, overusing a muscle,
or using a muscle in the wrong way.
19
Soft tissue injury - Aim
 Reduce local tissue and metabolic demands.
 Manage pain (ददट को प्रबंधिि करें)
 Minimize inflammation (सूजि कम करें)
 Protect the tissue from further injury.
 Maintain general level of cardiorespiratory and Mosco skeletal fitness and activity.
20
Bone injuries
Closed fracture :
 in this the bone breaks but there is no open wound in the skin.
Greenstick fracture :
 An incomplete fracture in which the bone is bent.
 This is mainly occurring in children.
Oblique Fracture :
 A facture in which bone slopes.
 A fracture is when the break is on an angle through the bone.
21
Bone injuries Cont……
Transverse fracture :
 It’s a fracture at right angle to the bone’s axis.
Open Fracture : (compound fracture)
 A fracture in which the bone is sticking through the skin.
 There is an associated open wound in the area of the fracture.
Impacted Fracture :
 An impacted fracture is one whose ends are driven into each other .
 This is commonly seen in arm fractures in children.
22
Bone injuries Cont……
Comminuted fracture :
 It is a fracture in which bone fragments in several parts.
Complicated fracture :-
 structures surrounding the fracture are injured.
 There may be damage to the veins, arteries or nerves.
Stress fractures :-
 are tiny cracks in a bone. They're caused by repetitive force,
 often from overuse — such as repeatedly jumping up and down or
 running long distances
23

26
Joint injuries
Dislocation :-
 A dislocation is an injury to a joint — a place where two or more bones come together — in which the
ends of your bones are forced from their normal positions. This painful injury temporarily deforms and
immobilizes your joint.
Luxation :-
 the act of dislocating a bone or putting a joint out of position.
 the condition of dislocation or being out of joint
Subluxation :-
 A subluxation is an incomplete or partial dislocation of a joint or organ.
 A subluxation is a "significant structural displacement",
