In Spanish you can leave out a pronoun subject (he, she, it, we, you and they) when the
meaning is clear. English requires a subject in every sentence.
CORRECTED: He is very happy.
XThe baby sleepy. (There is no verb.)
English requires a verb in every sentence.
CORRECTED:The baby is sleepy.
XThe man bought. (This is not a complete thought.What did the man buy?)
Many verbs in English require an object. (An object is a noun or pronoun that follows a
verb.
CORRECTED:
The man bought a house.
Commands Negative Command

(You) Speak slowly.
(You) Don’t eat so much!
(You) Don’t forget to call home.
