2nd Solid Symposium: Solid Pods vs Personal Knowledge Graphs
B2 Interpret the brief (1).docx
1. Interpret the brief
The client is “Sunderland culture,” they are holding a mixed media exhibition which is titled “Bright
lights: Northern talent.” This will be held across various Sunderland culture’s venues in the Northeast.
The Bright lights Youth Art Exhibition has evolved over the last 26 years and has highlighted the
development of young media talent through a series of exhibitions and festivals.
They have asked us to create suitable media products from up-and-coming local media content creators
that have clearly shown talent within the region. They are interested in the submission of video media
(short fictional film or documentary – 15 minutes), or a print media (series of digitally art pieces –
minimum of 5 combining of the two). The deadline for this project is 24th
April 2024 and the
resubmission deadline is 11th
June 2024.
If we missed the deadline in the industry, we are now showing professional practice which means that
they might not trust our worthy ethic that we told them previously. This can also cause us to delay the
release date of the project, which can have implications for us as a business and individual but also for
the production company. This can also cause us to rush the creative filming process or editing
depending on where we are at, which will cause the final product to not be as good as it should have
been. This can also show that all the time we had on this project has not been shown through the final
product. This could lead them to think that we have wasted time on this project, and they should have
given this project to someone else.
I do not have a budget for this project personally, as everything that I will be using is either from home
or from the college. I am also meeting up with the artist and he will be showing me his work which is
scattered around Sunderland.
The target audience is for young people from the ages 16-25. The aim is to engage young people to
educate them on local talent. This can show the development of the city’s cultural awareness and
diversity.
2. Requirements
We need to use our skills gained from A1 and A2 unites to develop our response to the Bright Lights:
Northern talent. The products we create should display the region in location, cast or talent and
regionally specific debates. Adding one of these to our project will show how the region has changed
and how the city is still developing.
As this is a longer project than previous projects the time, we have on it should be shown through the
project itself.
Potential problems that might occur
Potential problems that could occur can be ones that are out of my control, my client's control, and
both. One problem that I have already experienced is I wanted to meet up with him during the summer,
and one of us could not do the date one of us said because of distinct reasons that we could not get out
of. The way we can prevent this is by asking each other when we are free in advance and a few days
before we can message to see if we are both still free to meet each other.
Another reason could be the weather, as we are getting closer to winter, it means that the weather can
cause us to not be able to meet up outside the artwork because it is outside. This could mean that when
we get to filming, to prevent this from affecting us, we might have to pre plan where and when the
weather is, as well as our own timescale.
