INTRODUCTION
In our day to day life the energy sources are diminishing with a drastic speed.
Soon the day will come when man has to rely on the non-conventional source of energy.
Today it is the basic responsibility of a person to save as much energy as he can.
Throughout the history of human race major advantage in the civilization has
been accompanied by increase in consumption of energy. Today, energy consumption
is directly related to the level of living population and industrialization of the country is
increase.
Hence, in the present time with the drastic increase in the population of
vehicles. We need to think about the extraction of energy from these vehicles without
any effect on the normal routine of vehicle.
In this project the above concept about the possibility of energy extraction is
used & an effort is taken to formulate a prototype to convert such concept into reality.

REVIEW OF LITERATURE
3.1 History of Electricity:-
Depute what you have learned; Benjamin Franklin did not “invent” electricity. In fact,
electricity did not begin when Benjamin Franklin at when he flew his kite during a
thunderstorm or when light bulbs were installed in houses all around the world.
The truth is that electricity has always been around because, is simply a flow of electrons
between the ground and the clouds. When you touch something and gets a shock, which is
really static electricity moving toward you.
Hence, electrical equipment like motors, light bulb and batteries isn’t needed for
electricity to exist. They are just creative inventions to harness and use electricity.
The first discoveries of electricity were made back ancient Greece. Greek Philosophers
discovered that when amber is rubbed against cloth, lightweight objects will stick to it. This
is the basis of static electricity.
Over the centuries, there have been many discoveries made about electricity. We’ve all
heard of famous people like Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Edison, but there have been many
other inventors throughout history that were each a part in the development of electricity.
REQUIRED PARTS
GENRETOR:-
A generator produces electricity. In a generator, something causes the shaft and
armature to spin. An electric current is generated, as shown in the picture (lighting
bolt)
5
DYNAMO:-
The Dynamo was the first electrical generator capable of delivering power for industry.
The dynamo uses electromagnetic principles to convert mechanical rotation into an alternating
electric current. A dynamo machine consists of a stationary structure which generates a strong
magnetic field, and a set of rotating windings which turn within that field. On small machines
the magnetic field may be provided by a permanent magnet ; larger machines have the
magnetic field created by electromagnets.
BATTERY
This generated electricity can be stored for future use in the form of charge in the device
known as battery.
6
CLASSIFICATION OF BATTERIES
Batteries are usually divided into two broad classes:
. Primary battery
. Secondary battery
Primary batteries irreversibly transform chemical energy to electrical energy. Once the
initial supply of reactants is exhausted, energy cannot be readily restored to the battery by
electrical means.
Secondary batteries can have the chemical reactions reversed by supplying electrical
energy to the cell, restoring their original composition.
PROCEDURE
Possible using 3 different mechanisms:
I. Crank-shaft mechanism
II. Roller mechanism
III. Rack- Pinion mechanism
ROLLER MECHANISM:
7
A roller blind mechanism for winding and unwinding a rollable blind, the mechanism
comprising a support element, a drive sprocket which is rotatably mounted on the support
element for transmitting rotational movement to a blind supporting member, and a
manually-movable elongate flexible drive element which includes a plurality of interlinked
tooth-engaging elements, the drive sprocket including a plurality of flexible teeth engagable
with the tooth-engaging elements of the flexible drive element. A roller blind mechanism
as claimed in claim 1, wherein a radial extent of the teeth of the
drive sprocket is equal to or greater than a maximum dimension of the tooth-engaging
elements of the flexible drive element.
RACK AND PINION MECHANISM
Rack and pinion gears normally change rotary motion into linear motion, but sometimes
we use them to change linear motion into rotary motion.
They transform a rotary movement (that of the pinion) into a linear movement (that of
the rack) or vice versa.
We use them for sliding doors moved by an electric motor. The rack is attached to the
door and the pinion is attached to the motor. The motor moves the pinion which moves the
rack and the door moves.

CRANKSHAFT MECHANISM
CONSTRUCTION DETAILS:
The various machine elements used in the construction of power hump are
 RACK
 SPUR GEAR
 FLY WHEEL
 BEARINGS
 SHAFT
 SPRINGS
 ELECTRIC DYNAMO
9
WORKING PRINCIPLE
 It works on the principle that when a moving vehicle passes through this set up, the
kinetic energy of vehicle will cause roller to rotate which will further rotate transmission
shaft and hence the generator armature (i.e. acting as prime mover to run generator).
 When a vehicle passes over a speed bump it rotates the roller.
 Roller rotates due to friction between wheel and roller. It is like sliding action but due
to mounting of roller in a fixed place doesn’t allow the roller to move forward or
backward.
 It rotates only in its own position because of bearing is attached to both end.
 Roller movement causes the shaft of the generator to rotate by the help of chain drive
(1:5 speed ratios).
 The shaft will rotate with certain R.P.M. roller shaft are connected through a chain drive
to the dynamos, which converts the mechanical energy into electrical energy. The
conversion will be proportional to traffic density.
 Chain drive is used to avoid slipping.
 As the shaft of generator rotates, it produces electricity.

CONCLUSION
 The existing source of energy such as coal, oil etc may not be adequate to meet the ever
increasing energy demands. These conventional sources of energy are also depleting
and may be exhausted.
 It is an non conventional type of producing the energy. This project is a one step to path
of exploring the possibilities of energy from several non-conventional energy sources.

  • 5. 5 DYNAMO:- The Dynamo was the first electrical generator capable of delivering power for industry. The dynamo uses electromagnetic principles to convert mechanical rotation into an alternating electric current. A dynamo machine consists of a stationary structure which generates a strong magnetic field, and a set of rotating windings which turn within that field. On small machines the magnetic field may be provided by a permanent magnet ; larger machines have the magnetic field created by electromagnets. BATTERY This generated electricity can be stored for future use in the form of charge in the device known as battery.
  • 6. 6 CLASSIFICATION OF BATTERIES Batteries are usually divided into two broad classes: . Primary battery . Secondary battery Primary batteries irreversibly transform chemical energy to electrical energy. Once the initial supply of reactants is exhausted, energy cannot be readily restored to the battery by electrical means. Secondary batteries can have the chemical reactions reversed by supplying electrical energy to the cell, restoring their original composition. PROCEDURE Possible using 3 different mechanisms: I. Crank-shaft mechanism II. Roller mechanism III. Rack- Pinion mechanism ROLLER MECHANISM:
  • 7. 7 A roller blind mechanism for winding and unwinding a rollable blind, the mechanism comprising a support element, a drive sprocket which is rotatably mounted on the support element for transmitting rotational movement to a blind supporting member, and a manually-movable elongate flexible drive element which includes a plurality of interlinked tooth-engaging elements, the drive sprocket including a plurality of flexible teeth engagable with the tooth-engaging elements of the flexible drive element. A roller blind mechanism as claimed in claim 1, wherein a radial extent of the teeth of the drive sprocket is equal to or greater than a maximum dimension of the tooth-engaging elements of the flexible drive element. RACK AND PINION MECHANISM Rack and pinion gears normally change rotary motion into linear motion, but sometimes we use them to change linear motion into rotary motion. They transform a rotary movement (that of the pinion) into a linear movement (that of the rack) or vice versa. We use them for sliding doors moved by an electric motor. The rack is attached to the door and the pinion is attached to the motor. The motor moves the pinion which moves the rack and the door moves.

  • 9. 9 WORKING PRINCIPLE  It works on the principle that when a moving vehicle passes through this set up, the kinetic energy of vehicle will cause roller to rotate which will further rotate transmission shaft and hence the generator armature (i.e. acting as prime mover to run generator).  When a vehicle passes over a speed bump it rotates the roller.  Roller rotates due to friction between wheel and roller. It is like sliding action but due to mounting of roller in a fixed place doesn’t allow the roller to move forward or backward.  It rotates only in its own position because of bearing is attached to both end.  Roller movement causes the shaft of the generator to rotate by the help of chain drive (1:5 speed ratios).  The shaft will rotate with certain R.P.M. roller shaft are connected through a chain drive to the dynamos, which converts the mechanical energy into electrical energy. The conversion will be proportional to traffic density.  Chain drive is used to avoid slipping.  As the shaft of generator rotates, it produces electricity.

  • 12. 12 CONCLUSION  The existing source of energy such as coal, oil etc may not be adequate to meet the ever increasing energy demands. These conventional sources of energy are also depleting and may be exhausted.  It is an non conventional type of producing the energy. This project is a one step to path of exploring the possibilities of energy from several non-conventional energy sources.
