2. Storm Doors are an accessory that
create an extra barrier against the
elements. In winter, they help keep
warm air in to conserve energy loss,
and reduce the exterior door’s exposure
to harsh weather.
In summer, they can be modified with
screens to prevent insects from
entering the home, and to allow fresh
air in for added ventilation.

3. Storm Doors refer to a glass door installed
in front of an exterior door. They can add
protection from the elements and
increased home security, as well as let
more natural light into your home.
Storm Doors that feature screens instead
of glass are referred to as Screen Doors
and can help ventilate your home.
Most Storm Doors are sold as pre-hung
units. They may be hinged on either side,
or double-door kits. These pre-framed
modules are relatively easy to screw onto
existing door jambs; a do-it-yourselfer
with reasonable skills can generally
install one in an afternoon.
Storm & Screen Doors
4. Storm Doors come in three different styles:
1. Full View. A full view storm door features a full length glass panel.
2. Ventilating. A ventilating style means that there are 2 glass panels and 1-2 screen
panels in the door at the same time. The glass panel(s) move up or down in order to
reveal the screen.
3. Roll Screen or Retractable Screen. This is a relatively new hybrid of the full view
and ventilating storm doors. The screen is connected to the top window of the storm
door and, when not in use, it automatically rolls up on a tensioned dowel in the top of
the door. This gives you a full view door when the screen is not in use, and a
ventilating door when it is.

When choosing a Storm Door, one of your first choices will be the type and size of
window and screen system. Many are made so that you can interchange the clip-
in glass panels with insect screening.
Modern Aluminum Storm Doors
10. Vinyl Storm Doors do not rust and are quite good at insulating. This is beneficial in
lowering energy bills in the winter and summer. These storm doors are available in a
wide variety of colors and designs as well. Vinyl Storm Doors also have an advantage
in the fact that they do not show scratches and holes very clearly. This is because the
material is the same colour throughout.
Vinyl Storm Doors are the most maintenance free option amongst vinyl, aluminum and
wood which makes them a popular choice among many buyers.

12. A porch enclosure is designed to convert
an outdoor "balcony, stoop, or landing"
that is covered by an overhang into an
indoor space. This porch enclosure
keeps out the elements allowing for a
three season sitting area, a "mud room"
or simply an added barrier against the
harsh Canadian winters.
If a porch enclosure is installed, it would
negate the need for a storm door.
Porch Enclosures
13. What do porch enclosure systems include?
They are generally sold along with storm doors. Components include fixed
glass panels, screen panels, frames, door thresholds, hardware, and joining
channels for easy installation.
What’s important is that they are custom-made to meet your specific
requirements to ensure a perfect fit.
