MIT Buddy Program
New place, new environment and new teaching
styles can be both exciting and challenging. In
order to ease this transition, MIT provides a
Buddy Program designed to make the transition
into MIT Sydney as enjoyable and rewarding as
possible for our new students.
The Buddy Program commenced on March 13th,
2017, when a group of 7 current senior students
(Senior Buddies) were matched with over 100
new MIT students (Junior Buddies).
Since then and for the past four weeks, Senior and
Junior Buddies have been meeting on a weekly
basis for a coffee or a chat in the campus. These
meetings are providing an informal and relaxed
environment where new students are able to
query matters at MIT and beyond.
A Message from Lily, MIT Sydney
Student Representative
Lily is our Student Representative on the Student
Experience Committee for 2017. Students are
welcome to contact her for any feedback. Let’s
hear it from her:
Welcome to MIT Sydney to all newcomers
and returning students!
I am Truong Thien Ly Le, or as simple as Lily and
am from Vietnam. I am a senior student
undertaking master degree of Computer
Networking at MIT Sydney campus. As much as
my excitement as a representative of Student
Experience Committee (SEC) at MIT Sydney, I am
delighted to be there for you and for us - MIT
Sydney student community. Apart from the
variety of student services offered at our college,
SEC is founded to bridge the communication gap
between us and the institution management. I am
here to listen to your opinion, your concerns, and
to ensure the message reach the right audience to
enhance your experience at MIT Sydney. Please do
not hesitate to contact me via
mit150967@stud.mit.edu.au or approach me on
campus to voice your ideas.
“Together we can create a better learning
environment for not only ourselves but also our
junior friends!”

13 things to do before you leave
university
Your university life plays
a vital role in your life.
This is your golden time
of your life. There are a
couple of things you
should try whilst you are
still a student so enjoy
every minute of your Uni
life.
By the time you graduate, you won’t have
anything but great memories to look back on.
As inspired by Student Beans’ ‘50 things to do
before you leave university’ (via The
Independent), we have come up with a
bucket list:
“What we cannot buy is a memory!”
1. Mentor someone in something
2. Read a book that is not subject related
3. Contribute a write – up for campus news
4. Go on a blind date
5. Do something for charity
6. Submit an assignment early
7. Apply for internships and volunteering
jobs
8. Join a student society
9. Make friends with student from a
country that you have not been to
10. Dye your hair
11. Make a video starring you and friends
about your university life
12. Go on an adventure trip
13. Try to learn a new word every day and
try to use it in your daily conversation.
Your Campus News
Do you have any stories or piece of work such
as cooking recipe, poetry, short story,
travelogue, articles, jokes, motivational
quotes, inspirational stories of great
personalities that you would like to share
with us at MIT Sydney?
This could be a wonderful opportunity to
have your work published and be recognized
by your peers in the next Campus News Issue!
Email your story to slloyd@mit.edu.au. Work
limit is 300 words.
Fun Fact and Quote of the Day
An average person will spend
25 years asleep!
” …is not what you
see in sleep, is the thing
which doesn’t let you
sleep”
