3. WHAT IS THIS TECHNOLOGY?
Storytelling is a vital skill with seemingly unlimited applications. In today's
digitized world, visual storytelling is a favorite classroom tool, and the
affordability and accessibility of technology such as Movie Maker, Tellagami,
Animoto, Puppet Pals, iMovie, iBooks, StoryBird, YoublisheriMovie provides
opportunities not imagined a decade ago.
Most importantly it is fun, autonomous and motivating.
4. WHAT IMPACT HAS THIS HAD ON
LEARNING TO DATE?
Digital Storytelling allows the students to use multiple literacies. Today's
students must be literate in both traditional print texts and multimedia. This
requires the ability to read and write text as well as understand and create
media to communicate their ideas. The National Council of Teachers of
English (NCTE) considers multimodal literacy crucial to students in the
twenty-first century, particularly for those not exposed to it at home.
Most importantly it is fun, autonomous and motivating.

USES
There are numerous ways that Digital Storytelling can be used in education.
- Learning how to use online tools in the curriculum for preparation of the
21st century.
- The teacher or student can become the instructor.
- Create their own stories.
- Present their own or groups stories.
- Share story projects with partners, class, school groups or globally.
- An engaging, multimedia-rich digital story can sever as an anticipatory set or
hook to capture the attention of students and increasing their interest in
exploring new ideas and themes.
