THE CHALLENGE
TIVA Healthcare’s parent company needed immediate help
for a client, an Arizona-based ambulatory surgical center
(ASC) that found itself in a serious staffing bind. A staff
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) had abruptly
departed without giving notice, leaving the facility short-
handed.
This unexpected loss of coverage had the potential to cause
damaging financial implications:
• To switch from CRNA coverage to RN coverage would
change the type of anesthesia used.
• That change in anesthesia would increase the total time
required to complete standard procedures by 50%.
• This 50% increase would drive huge (and unbudgeted)
operational overages.

and hire a permanent CRNA is three to four months. The
