2. Camerawork:
• At the beginning there was a full body shot of the older
person. This could be done to show importance on the
character’s role as well power that he contains.
• On the other boy, there is a close up shot on the younger
brother. This might show that he has less power than the
older person who had more, but also the audience might feel
sympathetic toward the boy.
• Once out of the car there is a wide shot to establish the
setting and the body language of the characters in the scene.
3. Sound:
Diagetic:
• There are sounds of many animals that are not the primary
focus of the film but do help to set the scene of the
countryside.
• There is also sounds of an aggressive car which could connote
the attitude and emotions of the older boy once he found the
younger brother.
Non – diagetic:
• Music during the idents get louder and more prominent
during it gets more into the film to build suspense and make
the audience more interested.
4. Editing:
• There is use of match on action shots when the younger boy is
in the boot of the car. This could have been done to distort
the audience purposefully and this may want to make the
audience find out what’s happening. Also, it could have been
used to show how dramatic the situation could have been.
• There is a focus pull onto the older person in the car to make
the link between the boy in the boot and the person driving.
• There is a merge between the idents and the starting scene of
the film. There is a bright whit white light which fades to
white and the movie scene has the younger boy in a dark
space with a phone for a light.
5. Mise-En-Scene
• When at the prison there was no sense of timing as no clocks
were shown and the outside was hidden. This shows the idea
that he is not free, and how much a of a lack of control he had
in prison.
• There is a juxtaposition between the previous setting
(farm/countryside) and the prison setting due the negative
connotations of the prison and the positive connotations of
the rural setting.
• The proxemics between the policeman behind the counter
and the prisoner was told to “stand back” showing that the
policeman likes to have authority over him and likes to keep it
that way.
