This document provides an introduction to implementing Active Directory at UMass Dartmouth. It defines Active Directory as a system that supports single sign-on, improved desktop security, easier management of workstations and servers, and faster software updates. Some key benefits of Active Directory include centralized network storage, easier file sharing, regular backups, and centralized support. With Active Directory, users will log on with their UMassD credentials to access computers, files, email and other resources. Password requirements are increased for improved security when accessing these additional services. The document lists departments that will use UMassD logon and provides contact information for questions.
