It starts off with the torch shining over the floor and showing that on this floor there is blood. The background is fully black, which proves that there is only darkness in this room, which gives it more effect. As the camera swings round, we see that there is a gun laid on the floor surrounded by spots of blood. The torch’s light is mainly lighting up the gun to show that it has some significance in this scene. As we are watching the gun lay there on the floor, we see the character roll into the main view of the camera. This shows us that there is someone in this room and the expression on his face shows that he is in sheer pain or is anxious of something. In the third screenshot, we see the character reaching for the gun; his face shows that it is something of a struggle and he is centrally framed to show that he is the most important object in this scene. He cannot reach the gun and to show this, the camera is showing him reaching for his gun with his boot, which is another object in this scene. This helps show his struggle in trying to reach the gun. In the 5th screenshot in which he has reached the gun, the character checks the chamber of the gun for bullets but it appears none are there. This creates more tension in this scene, as we know now that he can’t do anything with the gun, as it is useless. The lighting is still low – key as the torch is the only form of light. The next screenshot shows that he is very depressed in the fact that he has found the gun but it is empty. This again emphasises the fact that he is trapped but we don’t know how he is trapped until later on in the scene. The next screenshot show that he has the torch and is shining it around to try his best and find a way that he can get out of this trap. The fact that it is dark gives the scene tension because we don’t know what is in there with him. As the camera cuts to an over shoulder shot, it shows that he is trapped in an ankle brace and we know that he can’t get out because the gun was empty. The next scene embraces the fact that the only way he can get out is by snapping his own ankle. The close up shot and the sound perspective shows how painful and important the snapping of the ankle is to get out. Sound perspective is used to make it sound realistic and more convincing to the public. The blood on the floor signifies how gory and sick the idea of jigsaws plan is. The last screenshot is the fade in of the film name ‘saw III’ to show that this is the start of the film.<br />
