About CMC,Vellore:
MISSION:
• Not to be ministered unto but to minister
This line explains everything, but things to add are:
 Out of the box ideas to serve the poor.
 Several schemes to help the needy.
 The free bed provision in a ward, where the patient is treated for free.
 Mobile clinics to rural areas near Vellore for every 28 days.
 CHAD for low cost treatment to rural people.
 Rusha, Schell are some other centres for the same.
Educating the patients about the drug and administrations.
CMC, Vellore:
This building has vivid
departments and their
respective wards
along with different
pharmacy stores.
This block is built in the
memory of Dr. Ida Scudder. As
she was an obstetrician; this
block is mainly for Obstetrics,
Gynaecology and paediatrics.
It also has radiology, chemo
and haematology units.
Basically it is for
Private patients.
It has all
departments
except O&G and
paediatrics.
It is for out- patients
and have various OPD
clinics.
Pharmacy in CMC, Vellore:
• They had a total of 29 pharmacy units { 20 inside the campus and 9 in and
around Vellore}.
• They have a systematic segregated units and well organised way of
employment.
• They have a in-house Quality Control department for the quality assurance of
regiments produced by the manufacturing unit of CMC.
• The manufacturing unit produces some small volume parenteral and non -
parenteral preparations.
• They have a patient counselling desk for counselling patients about drugs and
their administration.
• They have DISH for dealing pharmacovigilance cases.

1 • To retake the unused medicines from patients and
refunding them.
2 • Patient counselling cell for educating and
instructing patients in their linguistic language.

 Been to 13 Pharmacy stores in CMC,Vellore out of 20 In-campus.
 Assisted pharmacists in respective pharmacy stores in dispensing.
 In Patient counselling desk with other pharmacists.
 In ICU rounds along with Pharm D professionals.
 In Quality control department of CMC, Vellore.
 In DISH ( DRUG INFORMATION SERVICES OF HOSPITAL) with Pharm D professionals
and MD Pharmacologists.
Managed to learn basics of Tamil and Bengali for counselling at Patient counselling
desk.
 Got literature for different drugs for study.
 Learned about dosage indications of various drugs in counselling desk
 Interacted with many patients at the counselling desk.

i. Knowing about their symptoms, discussing about their signs with the oncologist.
ii. Analysing their case summary and interpreting their possible side effects with current
chemo drugs.

¥I had been to rural visits for two days with team headed by Dr. Riya. It was a
great experience of work.
¥I could know about vivid rural health statistics and medicaments prescribed
for chronic disease patients and ante-natal patients in those areas.
My Insight:

o I had a great working experience with Dr. Elsy.
o I got to interact with patients.
o I got a chance to clarify lot of my doubts.
o I had recorded few cases for their study.
o I came to know about various medications and surgeries in O & G.
oI was in about 7 OPDs along with Ma’am.

PHARMACY DEPARTMENT: Places I visited and work I did:  Been to 13 Pharmacy stores in CMC,Vellore out of 20 In-campus.  Assisted pharmacists in respective pharmacy stores in dispensing.  In Patient counselling desk with other pharmacists.  In ICU rounds along with Pharm D professionals.  In Quality control department of CMC, Vellore.  In DISH ( DRUG INFORMATION SERVICES OF HOSPITAL) with Pharm D professionals and MD Pharmacologists. Managed to learn basics of Tamil and Bengali for counselling at Patient counselling desk.  Got literature for different drugs for study.  Learned about dosage indications of various drugs in counselling desk  Interacted with many patients at the counselling desk. My Insight: • Collection of knowledge in this department is equivalent to cells in beehive, when squeezed together results in an enriching experience.

Knowing about their symptoms, discussing about their signs with the oncologist. ii. Analysing their case summary and interpreting their possible side effects with current chemo drugs.  Recording cases 1.Pen to paper details: i. Diagnosis; Clinical detail; scan summary; Investigations; Chemotherapy drugs ( Pharmacological details); ii. Questions clarification { Dr. Anugraha had clarified all my questions}.

It was a great experience of work. ¥I could know about vivid rural health statistics and medicaments prescribed for chronic disease patients and ante-natal patients in those areas.
