2. HOW YOU CAN BE AN ACTIVE
LISTENER:
Following are five key elements of active listening.
1) Due attention should be paid:
Give the speaker your undivided attention and
acknowledge the message.
• Speaker directly
• Put aside distracting thoughts.Don’t mentally
prepare a rebuttal!
• Avoid being distracted in environment factors.
• Try to avoid noisy atosphere
3. 2) Show that you are listening:
Use your own body language and
show that you are listening.
• Nod oscillationally.
• Smile and use other facial expressions.
• Note your postures and make sure it is
open and inviting.
4. 3) Feedback is important.
As listener your role is to understand what is
being said. These may require you to reflect what is
being said and ask question.
• Reflect what has been said by paraphrasing.
• Ask oceans to clarify certain points.
5. 4) Defer judgements:
Interrupt in waste of time. If frustrates the
speaker and limits full understanding of message.
• Allow the speaker to finish.
• Don’t interrupt when counterarguments.
6. 5) Responds appropriately:
You are gaining information and perspectives.
You add nothing by attacking the speaker or
otherwise putting him or her down.
• The candid, open, and honest is response.
• Arrest your opinion respectfully.
