1. Chadʼs obstacles move at different speeds. The sports cars move the fastest at a
gamesalad speed of 600, the trucks moving at a slower pace of 500 and the walls
obviously being the slowest at a speed of 400, Chad canʼt jump all of them in same
rhythm. The player has to time their jumps according to when they see the obstacle
appear on the right of the screen and no jump will be the same. Precision and the effective
use of double jumps will be needed.
The background scrolls using the parallax scrolling technique, where the slightly faster
movement of the buildings corresponds with the slower moving background sunset and
compliments it creating a realistic environmental movement.
The main menu music plays automatically when the game starts and it creates a upbeat
positive vibe with its 8 bit major synth melody. The gameplay music rather motivates the
player with its faster, minor atmosphere which is dominated by the bassline.
As the player enables Chad to jump, he animates consequently with an effective and
realistic crouch animation that would naturally occur whilst ollie-ing on a skateboarding.
His arms swing out in a quick manner to produce a simple yet realistic animation. The
animation reflects and resembles the quick movements of the 8 bit 80ʼs video game
protagonists.
Candy serves as the principal power up in ʻChadʼ. There are two variations of it, the
Lollipops and the wrapped sweets/chocolate (both worth 200pts). However, they both
provide the same services, to slow down the speed of obstacles for a limited amount of
time (6 seconds), enhancing the playerʼs judgement of jumps. The score also goes up by
and extra 50 points whilst the power up is working.
