1. Lecture Video Integration with Dr. Pope
STA Project Spring 2015
Student Technology Assistant: Matthew Stockton
Faculty Member: Dr. Jack Pope
Project Overview
For this semester’s STA project, I was
assigned to Dr. Jack Pope. As a Math
professor at USD, Dr. Pope
requested the assistance of the
Student Technology Assistant
program in efforts to create more
content for his video lecture section
on the Blackboard page for his
Survey of Calculus Course.
Weekly Meetings
To ensure effective time
management and keep us on
track, Dr. Pope and I decided
to schedule weekly meetings
where we could communicate
directly and set deadlines for
projects on these days.
Creating Content
With my knowledge in basic
principles of Calculus, I helped Dr.
Pope write up and choose content
that would be relevant to the
students taking the course.
Choosing a Program Editing and Publishing
There were multiple options we
explored for creating the videos. Dr.
Pope wanted to clearly walk through
examples while simultaneously running
a PowerPoint presentation and
recording his voice. After exploring
various programs, we ended up using
Camtasia Studio. Camtasia provide an
easy-to-use interface that performed
all of Dr. Popes given criteria.
Camtasia contained a great
amount of editing tools that
allowed Dr. Pope to insert
additional text and images. It also
allowed audio editing, enabling
users to omit unnecessary
background sound. The finalized
videos were published on USD’s
Ensemble video streaming server.
