The document provides 11 math word problems related to profit, costs, revenue, supply and demand functions, and other economics topics. Students are asked to solve the problems by finding break-even points, maximum or minimum values, equilibrium quantities and prices, and other values. The problems cover concepts like profit maximization, optimal production levels, and using equations to model economic relationships.
1. 1. If the profit from the sale of x units of a product is P = 105x
− 300 − x2, what
level(s) of production will yield a profit of $1050? (Enter your
answers as a
comma-separated list.)
x = _________ units
2. The total costs for a company are given by
C(x) = 5400 + 80x + x2
and the total revenues are given by
R(x) = 230x.
Find the break-even points. (Enter your answers as a comma-
separated list.)
x= __________ units
3. If total costs are C(x) = 900 + 800x and total revenues are
R(x) = 900x − x2, find the
break-even points. (Enter your answers as a comma-separated
list.)
x= _____________
4. For the years since 2001, the percent p of high school seniors
who have tried marijuana
2. can be considered as a function of time t according to
p = f(t) = 0.17t2 − 2.61t + 52.64
where t is the number of years past 2000.† In what year after
2000 is the percent
predicted to reach 75%, if this function remains valid?
_______________
5. Using data from 2002 and with projections to 2024, total
annual expenditures for
national health care (in billions of dollars) can be described by
E = 4.61x2 + 43.4x + 1620
where x is the number of years past 2000.† If the pattern
indicated by the model
remains valid, in what year does the model predict these
expenditures will reach
$15,315 billion?

6. Diabetes
For my UnEssay project I would like the focus to be on
interventions for diabetes. This is a chronic disorder
characterized by increased glucose levels that progressively
modify or conflict with the degree of glucose tolerance in the
body. It also is a multidimensional disorder that requires a
varied approach to treatment since it is a lifestyle disease that,
if left unchecked, may cause severe ailment. The fact that the
ailment manifests itself in two forms, namely diabetes type 1
and diabetes type 2, renders it a huge public health problem
around the world. Although diabetes is becoming more common
among adults, little knowledge has been provided on the
disease's pathogenesis, management, and potential therapy or
intervention strategies. I found this topic to be quite interesting
to me and also beneficial as a few of my close relatives have
this disease and so this acted as a personal motivated for me to
learn more about it. Moreover, I chose to do this project
because it challenges my approach to communicating and
developing my ideas as opposed to the more mundane formal
way.
I plan to format my project first by properly introducing this
topic then stating its causes and intervention plans and then at
the end I would include an interview with three individual with
diabetes in order to get first-hand information on how the
disease has impacted their lives and the various treatment plans
they are on. This will also allow me to get a better idea on
which intervention methods they find to be the most effective
for them and also inquire on the things they would have done
differently in order to avoid developing the disease; this being
applicable if in fact it was a consequence of their lifestyle
choices. I will also be including several images depicting the
severity of this condition. This project should be compl eted
within a week; the first two days would be the writing portion
of the project and the remaining days would be for the
interviews.
