It is advised to select and use e - resources that complement
our Catholic Education Office Faith Curriculum

But consulted with DCEO Faith Education.
I do know where to look for resources.

25. There are far better human information sources on theology and
curriculum:
- Your parish priest and parish peers qualified in theological content.
- Staff in the Diocesan office or in your school trained in Faith Formation or
Curriculum.
- Informative theological texts in the Catholic Education Office Resource Centre
which can be found at this portal.

format. Its all about the content.

• Recent research has demonstrated that deep reading—slow, immersive,
rich in sensory detail and emotional and moral complexity—is a distinctive
experience, different in kind from the mere decoding of words.

What Types of E-Books Are Best for Young Readers? - Heather
Ruetschlin Schugar and Jordan T. Schugar, West Chester University
• Parents and teachers should to look for e-books that enhance and
extend interactions with the text, rather than those that offer only
distractions; that promote interactions that are relatively brief rather
than time-consuming; that provide supports for making text-based
inferences or understanding difficult vocabulary; and that locate
interactions on the same page as the text display, rather than on a
separate screen….

I use the web for my research.
When I want to read for relaxation I prefer to use a paper book.”

In groups of 4 or 5 discuss either:
•Do you use ebooks in your religion classes?
•What types of ebook resources have you used in Faith
Education?
In each group please appoint a reporter (the person who has the
most recently purchased a car!)
1. Reporters could you please write the titles suggested on the
reporting template provided in the workshop.
2. A list of resources will be emailed to participant email addresses.
If you would like a copy please complete the email template.

Gutenberg etext like this.

43
Project Gutenberg free ebook. Scanned and in HTML
format. No interactivity.
Content and authorial purpose is questionable.
Text originally written in 1867 in a genre of scientific
rationalism.
Book relied heavily on the Gospel of John.
It depicted Jesus as a man but not God, and rejected the
miracles of the Gospel.
It promoted racial ideas and infused race into theology and
the person of Jesus by depicting Jesus as a Galilean who
was transformed from a Jew into a Christian, and that
Christianity emerged purified of any Jewish influences.

eBooks are electronic texts available in a
digitally encoded format readable via an
electronic e-reader device.
They contain hyperlinks, images, or audio,
and greater interactivity between reader
and text.

Use configurator app a Mac for the master image and a

out apps / download a set image / recharge the devices.
Teacher planning to select appropriate etexts. Some
schools either give an iTunes card to parents for home
downloading and chargeback through fees.
Use Apple volume licensing or school licencing to
purchase required apps at a discount.
Set up bandwidth prioritising for key software applications
to go through first or bandwidth splitting to proportionally

Mauro Dalu (Official Rep) 12 months ago
Hello Joanne,
Our apps contents are officially licensed and authorized by the
International Commission on English in the Liturgy and by the United
States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Our Bible App carries the "imprimatur" of the New American Bible.
The Liturgy of the Hours audio is produced according to the "approved" general
instructions, which represent our reference and set the boundaries of our "creative
freedom".
Our podcast and apps are used regularly by ordained people.
That said, you should also be aware that our Liturgy of the Hours production is a work-
in-progress as we record new audio and implement the new translation of the Missal for
the concluding prayers, therefore whenever we get pointed to typos and mistakes, we
promptly correct them in a continuing effort to improve the prayer experience of our
community.
As a side note, I do not know of any app that has received an official,
formal recognition by the Vatican in terms of an "approval".
Many apps, including ours, have received words of appreciation from
the clergy, and some of them in written form. That does not
necessarily imply any app or podcast received an official "approval" or
"endorsement" from the Catholic Church.
Thank you, Mauro.

Central ebook repository – Softlink Oliver / Overdrive
Multiple school licence. Americanised content with increasing Australian content.
Looking currently at trialling a centralised Diocesan ebook library linked through
your primary Oliver library software. Available initially to Oliver primary schools
and then other users.
Overall database has 300,000+ titles with 60,000 titles suitable for P to 12.
Adopted in 4 other Dioceses. $2.70 per user in first year and $1.40 per user
after that.
“Value for money” issues identified already are:
•Can the WAN bandwidth performance carry the downloads?
•Establish how students can authenticate against the central repository logon
both at home and school through TASS protocols.
•Establishing a school based and Diocesan selection committee deciding on
readability levels / numbers of copies / inclusion of textbooks into the fiction
database / ACARA content appropriateness for ebooks / who pays?
Can I share that I have looked at the initial presentation title a thousand times. After reflection, I think I would now prefer to rename it as something like … “Experiencing the ever present and ever loving Jesus in the electronic age.”
The original title now seems too simple and implies a break in our relationship with Jesus, or that we are only discovering him today. It ignores the rich heritage of our historical church and the strength and beauty of the Catholic faith held by our brothers and sisters in previous generations.
