Head of Technical Operations
My client is an incubated start-up based in central London; they are part of a large established and successful business
specialising in the digital media space. They have been growing the internal engineering resources and now require a Head
of Technical Operations to join the team to ensure the correct processes, tools and procedures are in place to support the
business’s software products.
Background to the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to build and lead our technical operations team. This is a pivotal role
in the company, and will define and deliver support and solutions for leading companies within the Digital Media sector.
The successful candidate is to rapidly build new operational capabilities by introducing the necessary people and processes
to scale a world-class client delivery function. The roles reports to the Group IT Director.
The role
● Provide overall leadership of the Technical Operations function globally, including developing and executing a
technical operational plan to build and scale an international technical operations team.
● The Head of Technical Operations is ultimately responsible for the successful delivery of technical operations for the
customers globally specifically relating to the company’s software products and the infrastructure that supports them.
● Provides regional leadership for several people managers working across multiple platforms and partner products
● Has responsibility for the technical health of the businesses software engineering and platform infrastructure.
● Owns technical health of a large range of 3

party partnerships, including hardware and software vendors.
● Is accountable for support structures and escalation paths being in place 24/7
● Provides thought leadership and promotes innovative uses of systems, products to maximize partners’ revenue
● Sets team objectives for multiple areas of technical operations , including cloud based server infrastructure, physical
hosting infrastructure, local office infrastructure
● Closely aligns team goals, training and recruiting with group revenue targets and new opportunities
● Leads and coordinates regional cross-departmental initiatives
● Supports the business with project management for new initiatives and products
● Develops key stakeholder relationships with engineering, operational and product leads across the global business
● Acts as regional escalation point and leads on urgent and major issues
● Signs off on technical aspects for all partnerships contracts, including SLAs
Must have experience & skills:
ITIL certification
Proven team leadership skill in a demanding and sometime pressurised environment
Ability to define and implement the right level of process and procedures to support the business without
slowing the teams velocity
At least 7 years hands-on experience with Internet technologies, including, Linux, MySQL, PostreSQL, one or
more of Python, PHP, Perl Java, XML, HTML, JavaScript.
Thorough understanding of the principles of TCP/IP networking, DNS and databases
Fluent English
Demonstrated ability to lead large scale projects
Proven business negotiation skills
Excellent communication skills - must be able to communicate with all levels of staff both externally and
internally
Delivery focused – able to work to specific business objectives
Strong customer service skills
Flexible, creative and adaptable
Desire to constantly learn and develop new skills
Excellent organizational and analytical skills
