2. They have been speaking
about roads in Russia from the
ancient times. I’d like to
underline some of their
aspects.
3. Actuality: nowadays the problems of the aesthetic
face of modern city and ecology are very essential
and significant for Moscow. Streets are dusty and
gas-polluted, their conditions are ugly.
Subject: “Hanging Gardens” as means of
decoration and struggle with dust- and gas-
pollution.
Aim: “Eco-generator” design as part of
architectural ensemble.
4. Goals:
-to research methods of city improvement
and landscape gardening of distant
countries;
-to work out a design project of landscape
greenery ofYaroslavskoe Shosse.
Methods: observation, comparison,
systematization, calculation and
simulation.
Newness: use hidden (concealed) space of
the trestles ofYaroslavskoe Shosse for
placing «Hanging Gardens» in summer,
use space under them for keeping the
plants in winter.
Hypothesis: the improvement of
ecological condition ofYaroslavskoe
Shosse decreasing of gas-pollution by
10% in summer.
5. First of all, «Hanging Gardens» hold a
great variety of plants that don’t occupy the area
on the ground. It’s very actual in condition of
compact urban building. Moreover they are very
important for Moscow that is full of concrete,
asphalt, glass and iron.
Secondly, «Hanging Gardens» as part of
architectural ensemble exercise a great influence
on people. Let’s pay attention to this point.
6. The experts of RIA analyzed 10
the most gas-polluted cities
of the world. Moscow is on
the top of it. 92,8% of air is
polluted.
7. Green is the colour of the nature and health.
Green help make a vision more clear and that’s
one of the reasons why factory walls are painted
in green. Staying in a green room or browsing a
green website can be more unwinding and
relaxing for people.
8. Grey is the only colour that
has no direct psychological
properties. It is, however,
quite suppressive. Some
shades of grey are
associated with old age,
death, depression or a lost
sense of direction.
15. After calculation the amount of lamp-posts, the length of flutes, the area for
lawn planting, the size of the tree’s crowns and bus stops I’ve got 14 260
square meters of plants. It’s too much.
If we take into account that in theYaroslavskiy district live about 95 000
people and that 1 square meter of plants produce so much oxygen that one
man can breathe it for one year, it is easy to calculate how the ecological
situation have changed.
I’m convinced that «Eco-generator» will increase the amount of fresh air by
15%. However, we live in central region of Russia, where climate in winter is
severe. All the year round plants growing in Europe can be used only half a
year in Russia (from May to October).Therefore the amount of clear air
increases by 7,5%.

I’ve proved that «Eco-
generators» will:
•Improve the ecological condition
of the streets (they can be
«filters» of dust and gas).
•Change the mental perception of
people (lush colours of plants
replace the grey colour of
concrete and asphalt).
•Modify the urban condition as a
part of architectural ensemble.

documented beneficial effects of plants on outcomes such as
psychophysiological stress, task performance, and symptoms of
ailments. Experts say that plants are beneficial to people.They create an
individual working environment and bring colour.They are beneficial for
a high spirits, give a feeling of well-being and help to overcome stress.
• Ecology and aesthetical face are the «mirror» of the city, where the level
of social and economical state of the country reflects.Therefore in
modern countries the information about ecological situation is generally
available and plays the leading role in political and social life.
• What’s about cost, there is no doubt that the construction of «Eco-
generators» will be covered with not only money but with the people’s
physical and emotional health.
