Loving God,
We gather here tonight as a whanau of
parents and teachers who have a shared
purpose of supporting our children with their
learning. As we learn together through this

presence.
May your Holy Spirit be present in our HEAD,
HEART and HANDS.
Give us a HEAD that seeks truth, wisdom and
thinking.
Give us a HEART that desires to love you and
all your creation.
Give us HANDS that enable us to serve

Nature of Science
Nature of Science Strands
1. Understanding about Science
2. Investigating in Science
3. Communicating in Science
4. Participating and Contributing
The nature of science strand is the overarching, unifying strand.
Through it, students learn what science is and how scientists work.
They develop the skills, attitudes, and values to build a foundation for
understanding the world. In science, students explore how both the
natural physical world and science itself work so that they can
participate as critical, informed, and responsible citizens in a
society in which science plays a significant role.
NZ Curriculum Achievement Aims
Students will…
• Appreciate that science is a way of explaining
the world and that science knowledge
changes over time.
• Identify ways in which scientists work together
and provide evidence to support their ideas.
1. Understanding about Science
NZ Curriculum Achievement Aims
Students will…
• Build on prior experiences, working together to
share and examine their own and others’
knowledge.
• Ask questions, find evidence, explore simple
models, and carry out appropriate investigations
to develop simple explanations.
2. Investigating in Science
3. Communicating in Science
NZ Curriculum Achievement Aims
Students will…
• Begin to use a range of scientific symbols,
conventions, and vocabulary.
• Engage with a range of science texts and begin to
question the purposes for which these texts are
constructed.
4. Participating and Contributing
NZ Curriculum Achievement Aims
Students will…
• Use their growing science knowledge
when considering issues of concern to
them.
• Explore various aspects of an issue and
make decisions about possible actions.
