A ONE-WEEK TOUR IN ABRUZZO

2. “Peaks and Sand” travel agents in Pescara since 1957 is a well known tour
operator especially working with young people from abroad willing to experience
a unique adventure in our stunning region.
We are proud to offer a package tour for 15 young European people from 29 th
June to 5 th July 2014.
Abruzzo is called “the

natural parks which
stretch for over one
third of our territory;
besides you’ll find a
wide variety of
beaches from the
rocky to sandy ones.
3. 29 th June
Depending on your flight arrival time:
transfer from Abruzzo International
Airport Pescara to your hotel;

Accommodation:”The Seafront”
a 4 star comfortable Hotel
in the city centre;
•
20:30: dinner at “ La Conchiglia”
a typical fish restaurant
facing the beach.

4. Day 2: Monday
8.00 am: Buffet breakfast
9.30 am: Transfer to Spoltore
It is an old village 6 km far from Pescara between the rivers
Tavo
and Pescara. The overview is beautiful, overlooking mountain
and the sea. Spoltore is famous for its cultural life and musical
events. We will stroll along its streets and will visit the church of
San Panfilo
11.30 am: Visit of the church of
San Cristoforo and the village
of Moscufo, enjoying the beautiful landscape that
surrounds us.
The glory of the village is represented by the church
S. Maria del Lago.
The church was once a property of
the Benedictine monasteries and dates
back to the XII century.
13.00 pm: Stop for lunch at a typical restaurant in
Moscufo; speciality :meat or fish to your pleasure
5. 15.00 pm: Transfer to Pianella and visit of the the church of
Santa Maria Maggiore. The Basilica dates back to the XII
century and is one of the most outstanding monuments in our
region. The root of the name Pianella derives from the plain
where the village is situated. The economy of the village is
based on its agricultural activity.
The oil produced here is famous for its delicate taste,
coming from an olive plant, called “dritta”.
17.00 pm: Go by bus to visit the church of
Santa Maria del Carmine in Penne: it is the
native land of famous men like Muzio Pansa,
doctor and humanist and the patriots
Clemente De Caesaris and Domenico De Caesaris
6. 19.00 pm: after a long day finally return to Pescara, but the best is yet to come!
20.30 pm: Meet at the beach for a bonfire accompanied by arrosticini and barbecue .
Ready to learn and sing some famous Italian songs accompanied by the guitar
7. Day 3: Tue

8.30 A.M:Breakfast at the hotel
9.30 A.M.:Meeting point: La nave di Cascella for a bike tour of Pescara .We will have the
chance to visit some highlights such as Il ponte del mare (a new bridge with a bike and a
pedestrian path, which has become the symbol of modern Pescara, Corso
Manthonè,The tourist Port, The Church of Sacro Cuore and the Cathedral of San Cetteo.

8. 12.00 A.M.:Lunch at the beach with grilled and fried fish.
3.00 P.M.: Beach tennis or beach volley tournaments and then …. ZORBING!!!

6.30 P.M.: Long, refreshing bath in the sea

7.30 P.M.:Back to the hotel to get ready for the evening.

8.30 P.M.: eat out at a famous restaurant in Silvi Marina with pizza, arrosticini and much
more...
10.30 P.M.:Caribbean and traditional folk dances.

9. Day 4: Wed
To the mountains!
(wear a pair of comfortable trekking shoes or trainers)
7:30 am: Breakfast at the hotel (don't forget to get your packed lunch with you! It will be
prepared for you by the hotel staff)
8:00 am: Departure to the Hermitage of San Bartolomeo in Legio, Abruzzo’s most famous rockface hermitage.
It is a wonder since it seems to be part of the mountain itself and once arrived there you will
enjoy a stunning view of the Maiella chain from the top of it. It takes about 1 hour's walk to get
there.
There’s a lovely Medieval fresco above the wooden door that dates back to the time of the
Abruzzese Pope, Celestino V, who was a hermit here between 1274-1274 and rebuilt the church
in the late C13th before he rejected and resigned his pontiff as a protest of the corruption in the
church in Rome at the time. For believers there is a holy restorative spring on the left with a small
ladle to drink from, a simple altar and a wooden statue of San Bartolomeo with a book to sign and
make offerings as you wish.
10. Day 4: Wed
1 pm: Enjoy our lunch surrounded by the landscape of Maiella national park.
3 pm: Walk to Roccamorice, a village 520 metres above the sea level which dates back
to Medieval time; visit of its historical centre and the tholos (typical ancient
shepherds' shelters made of stone ) . Free time for shopping
7 pm: Dinner at a typical agriturismo where you will taste home- made first courses
and sweets, together with grilled meat (especially lamb) and vegetables.
9 pm : all on the grass with all eyes staring the stars with an expert who will unveil us
the secrets of the sky above us
10 pm: Back to the hotel
11 pm: Beddy byes!
11. Day 5 | Thu
San Clemente a Casauria
8:00 a.m. Breakfast at the hotel
8:45 a.m. Transfer to the Abbey of San Clemente a Casauria , a church built in the
IX century and a symbol of our region. Of remarkable importance is the inside
which is divided in three aisles by a series of pilasters and semicolumns supporing
the aecades. The ambon is richly decorated and has a magnificent relief.
12. Day 5| Thu
Manoppello Sanctuary of Volto Santo
11:30 a.m. Arrival in Manoppello and visit
of the sanctuary and the city center
13:30 a.m. Lunch at a “trattoria” where you will
taste some typical meals such as pasta alla chitarra.
3:00 p.m. Transfer to the church of Santa Maria d’ Arabona
13. Day 5|Thu
Church of Santa Maria di Arabona
3:30 a.m. Arrival at the church and guided visit
This church was probably started in 1208 by the Cirstercian monks and was dedicated to
the
Virgin. The church is very simple and presents a Latin cross. It concentrates mainly on the
central nave where we can find the altar.
14. Day 5|Thu
Sulmona
4:30 pm. Arrival in Sulmona to visit the factory of
the world-known confetti, Free time to buy some
Souvemirs. (metti foto dei confetti)
After that we will visit the city which dates back to
Roman times (the famous poet Ovid was born there.)
We'll have a walk in the old town and visit the Cathedral, a church built in Romanesque style.
After that you'll have the chance to see the Complesso dell'Annunziata, the most impressive
momument
in town. You'll also have free time for shopping and relaxing!
7:30pm: Back to Pescara
9:00 pm: dinner all together at a famous pizzeria with an open-air swimming pool and a disco.
15. Day 6: Fri
8:00 am: Breakfast at the hotel.
9:00 am: Departure for Pineto.
9:30 am: Arrival in Pineto and visit of he "Cerrano's Tower". This bulding
stands between Pineto and Silvi and represents the most imposing coastal
fortress of Abruzzo. This beautiful 16th-century tower rises on a small hill,
surrounded by pine trees. Recently, it hosts a marine biology laboratory.
11:00 am: Free time on the beach.
16. Day 6: Fri
3:30 pm: Return to Pescara
4:00 pm: Arrival in Pescara and free time... You can go shopping!
8:30 pm: Dinner in a typical restaurant
11:30 pm: Night at a posh disco with a Dj set and lots of surprises!!!
17. 5 th July
8:00: buffet-breakfast at the hotel;

9:30-11:30: free time activities;

12:15: Lunch at the hotel;

18. Depending on the time of your flight back:
transfer from the hotel to the Airport
