2. INTRODUCTION
Salerno is one of the most important cities in the South of Italy: there are a lot
of museums and historical attractions, you can also enjoy the natural parks
like Minerva’s garden or the garden of the town hall. Now our aim is to give
information about this amazing city.
3. ARECHI CASTLE
The Arechi Castle is a medieval castle, situated at a height of about 300
metres above sea level, overlooking the city and the Gulf of Salerno. It is said
Arechi because the construction of this fortification is associated to the
Lombard Duke Arechi II. The oldest building phase, according to some
archaeological investigations, dates back to the sixth century.
4. EMERALD CAVE
The Grotta of Smeraldo known as well with the name of "Emerald Cave" was named
after the characteristic green light inside the cave. It is caused by natural sunlight from
outside which enters the cave through an underground passage, which connects the salt
water lake in the huge chamber with the sea outside. It's really weird that the light is green
while mostly of the water becomes blue as the nearby Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto) in
Capri.
5. RAVELLO CORAL MUSEUM
The Coral Museum was founded in 1986 by Giorgio Filocamo because he wanted to
preserve the precious wealth of antiques handed down from his family with Sicilian-
Neapolitan origins. Before or after the visit at the museum you can also enjoy the beauty
of the town of Ravello , having a walk at Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone. In Villa
Cimbrone there is the “terrazza dell’infinito” from which you can admire one of the most
spectacular views of the Amalfi coast.
6. AMALFI PAPER MUSEUM
The museum of paper was a paper factory. It became a museum in
1969. In the museum, that is in the valley of the mills, you can see the
tools used to produce hand made paper.The museum can be visited
every day from 10:00 to 18:30.
7. AMALFI CATHEDRAL
The newer cathedral is located next to the older basilica that was built on the
ruins of a previous temple. The front façade was rebuilt in 1891 after the
original one collapsed. In order to arrive at the cathedral you have to walk
along a majestic staircase made up of 62 steps.
