cocaine, brown sugar, etc.

Meaning:
Drug abuse has become a world wide problem in
modern times. Drug means a habit - forming
substance which is taken pleasure or excitement
and which includes sleep or produces insensibility.
Youth and teenagers are more prone to became the
victims of drug abuse
Drug abuse is an intense desire to obtain
increasing amount of a particular substance.

Generally, young youths are addicted to drugs.
It is estimated that over 7 crore people of India
are affected due to drugs.

million heroine addict in India.

Punjab is highly affected city in India.
75% of youth of Punjab is engaged in drug
addiction.
Drugs are openly sold and easily available .
In recent years there has been a sharp increase in
rate of HIV infection and hepatitis B because of
more no. of injectable drug users.
On an average India sees 10 suicides related to
drugs and among them one is from Punjab.

• Chemical messengers in brain are called
neurotransmitter. These neurotransmitter are
naturally produced in brain.
• Drugs such as heroin and marijuana are
structured in the same way as chemical
messenger.
• As a result of these similarity the drugs fool the
receptors of human brains and activates the
nerve cells in such a way that they send
abnormal messages.
• Drugs like cocaine and methamphetamine
releases extraordinary volumes of
neurotransmitter.

propagate against the habit of drug-taking.
