5. • Lahore is the 2ND largest urban center and
provincial capital of the Punjab Province with a
population of 9 million inhabitants in 2006. The
transport demand amounts to 6.8 million daily
person trips for work, shopping or recreation other
than walking.
• The major percentage of this travel demand
comprises of public transport.

6. • To resolve public transport issues in Lahore
and to provide safe, efficient, comfortable,
and affordable transport to the public,
Government of the Punjab has successfully
completed METRO BUS project and currently
planning to introduce a Metro Rail Transit
System on the Orange Line (From Ali Town to
Dera Gujran), Lahore.

9. Danger to Historic Sites
• Litigation against construction
activities near heritage sites. In August
last year, the Lahore High Court barred
the Punjab government from initiating
construction within 200 feet of 11
historic sites of Lahore.

Line track by December 25, 2017. But
the current pace suggests the
deadline will be missed at least by a
year.

meeting, officials said about 24% civil
works on the Orange Line Package-1
from Dera Gujjran to Chauburji were
pending. If the sites under litigation
are included, the remaining work
comes to around 28%.

• A good public transport system is more of a necessity, It
connects the people belonging to different walks of life
regardless of their social status, religion, caste and creed
and promotes harmony among them.
• Metro Train has been designed to cater to the
transportation needs of the disabled. To reduce the
hardships of the disabled, wheel chairs will be
available at the stations free of cost.

20. • Among all those benefitting from this service, the
students are going to make the most of this means of
public transport. I earnestly believe that the OLMT
will prove to be a safe ride for the students as some
renowned educational institutions are situated along
the route of the OLMT such as MAO College, Punjab
University, UET and GC College etc

22. • It will also resolve the problem faced by 52% of
women of expensive fares with regard to public
transport. The people of Lahore will be able to
commute aboard Orange Line Metro in just rupees

24. • The women, students and the disabled are the most
neglected segments of the society but this will
ensure fulfillment of their rights
• When the developed countries have mass transit
system, then why not Pakistan?

25. Conclusion
OLMT is a futuristic project as it is harbinger of
new dawn. But to minimize the lapse of ethical
issues in the industry, the suggested solutions
are divided into short, medium and long term
categories based on the project time frame.
The findings provide useful information to
stakeholders on how to deal with the pressing
ethical issues confronting the construction
industry.
